I visited Dr. Agha because I wanted to switch psychiatrist from my old one that I had last seen 3 months ago and whom I didn't feel was really listening to me. As soon as Dr. Agha heard that I had been seeing another psychiatrist in the area, she turned very hostile and said that she couldn't see me because "she didn't want to steal another psychiatrist's patient." She continued talking about her own career and about how she had just started her practice compared to me seeing my former provider for several years. When she finally asked me why I wanted to switch and I explained my concerns, she berated me for not caring about my former psychiatrist's feelings about the matter. When I professed ignorance about the correct process of being "discharged" by him before seeking a new psychiatrist (I'm myself a foreigner in this country) she responded with a snive remark "How did you think it was going to work?" She never even suggested that she'd be available/willing to see me after I completed this process correctly; instead she coldly turned me away. I was in a very bad place mentally at the time and had been hoping that changing psychiatrist might help me better manage my symptoms, both medicinally and by having someone who really cared working with me. Instead I was treated like it was my job to make the doctor feel good about herself without any concerns or questions about my own symptoms. Her disregard for me as a patient/person was a very devastating experience and made me feel very discouraged, disillusioned, and even exacerbated some suicidal thoughts in me for the following week. I feel like Dr. Agha is more concerned about establishing her own career than about the wellbeing or preferences of any of her patients and I would not recommend her to anyone.
