Biography
Dr. Michael has been in health care since 1984 when he entered the Faculty of Medicine at the U of A to study Medical Laboratory Science. He has worked at the University of Alberta Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital, research at the University of Alberta and Kasper's Labs ( now Dynalife). While he enjoyed working in research at the U of A, he missed the patient contact. In late 2000 he worked for the Alberta Cancer board (primarily at CCI) as a clinical analyst. Following his time at CCI, he returned to school and became a Naturopathic Doctor, studying at the world renowned NCNM in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Michael returned to Edmonton in 2011 and soon opened a clinic in Edmonton and sees patients from all over Alberta and B.C. He has a strong interest in helping people suffering with Cancer, Gut issues, stress and hormonal issues. He enjoys a challenge and helping those who see him find a new level of health and wellness. He believes that his med lab background gives him a unique insight in dealing with what patients are experiencing. His motto: Health worth spreading.
Education
- National College of Natural Medicine
- University of Alberta
I've seen a seemingly endless list of doctors over the years, and none of them were able to help me except Dr. Schaplowsky. My issues primarily surround digestion, but I've discussed numerous other problems with him as well. His breadth of knowledge in the areas of the body, nutrition, laboratory sciences, etc., is incredible and completely sets him apart from other doctors. There were things that took me years to discover, things no other doctor knew about, which Dr. Schaplowsky rattled off within the first few moments of meeting and me mentioning symptoms. He also educates you as he treats you, so you can really understand what's going on and how to work with him to solve your problem. For me, he has performed tests and seems to have an understanding of test results beyond anyone else I've seen. When I first saw him, my intestinal tract was almost not functioning at all. It was a terribly bad situation. It's healing now, and I'm making serious progress at a surprisingly fast pace. I recommend him, very highly. I wish I had consulted him decades ago before I had wasted so much time and opportunity to resolve things sooner. He is what a doctor should be.
