Walk-in appointment at 7:30pm on January 4th for strep throat swab; was told results would be available from the lab between 4-5pm on January 5th. Tried calling the number I was given, but it was no longer in service. Called the office, was given a different number, which belonged to the appointment booking line at the lab. Called the office again, was told that someone would call me back with the correct number. No return call came, so hours later, called the office back. Correct number received. Called the lab; was told my swab hadn't been received yet. Called office back again; was told the swab was picked up Thursday afternoon, sorry it was too late for testing on Thursday, someone will call me Friday with the result. By noon on Friday, no call back yet. Called office, was told receptionist cannot provide results over the phone, but that the doctor would call if the test was positive. Called the lab, was told it was. It is not 4pm on Friday, no callback yet from the doctor's office. In total, it took me 10 phone calls to get the information I needed, and no promised callback has ever happened.

My wife and I have been seeing Dr. Hassan for over 4 years. He is one of the most friendly, helpful and conscientious doctors in the city, we have had since we moved to Calgary almost 50 years ago. Recently, I had experienced severe back pain and the prognosis called for an MRI which was originally booked for September. Seeing the pain and discomfort I was experiencing, Dr. Hassan went out of his way to phone the radiologists at the hospital to speed up my appointment. As a result, my appointment was bumped up within the week. Dr. Hassan is always professional, courteous and willing to listen to his patients. Dr. Hassan goes over and above the norm. He has even phoned us personally, to follow-up on a medical concern I had. He also looks up anything he is unsure of or unfamiliar with, to ensure a correct diagnosis. On our recommendation, our children and grandchildren now have Dr. Hassan as their family physician. Dr. Hassan's balance of professionalism and courtesy is second to none. Doctor's receive negative reviews for a variety of reasons, some may be valid, while other poor reviews are down to personality conflicts or patients not hearing what they WANT to hear from a practitioner. Ad hom attacks against any doctor because of their race or religion in a city a progressive as Calgary are appalling, and if patients are going to complain about a doctor because of his or her colour, ethnicity or race, I recommend the patient go to medical school themselves or go back in time to 1952 where they belong.

Dr Hassan is a terrible doctor ! Avoid him if you can, this guy should NOT be practicing medicine! He rushes to a diagnosis and refuses testing, Doesn't listen to your symptoms to the point of it almost ending my life and causing more long term grief! Very unskilled and unprofessional. Anyone that comes into contact with him should proceed with caution. His lack of identifying life threatening symptoms almost cost my life! Thank goodness I switched and I would never recommend him to ANYONE if they want to live a healthy life. If i didn't have to place at least one star i wouldn't

Shocked and disgusted. I have not been to see him in quite some time. They left me a message saying that they received medical reports and the Dr. would like to discuss them with me. I made appointment the next day and stayed up all night wondering what was wrong! When I went he said he just wanted to talk with me because I had not been in for a while! That is because I have a new family Doctor that I have been going to. This is so wrong. Are the that desperate to get patients into their office?

I do not enjoy seeing Dr Hassan and I am finding a new family doctor. I have multiple chronic health conditions that he is not helpful with at all. I have problems with my knees and wanted to go to physio, but he wouldn't give me a referral and instead told me to "look up some stretches online". When my knee pain became intolerable I was forced to pay for physio out of my own pocket (as my insurance will not cover appointments without a referral) and had to go to a different walk-in to get some pain relief. He only spends 15 minutes with me in each appointment, and makes me feel like I can't ask questions or make suggestions. He prescribed me with two medications but only gives me one month of pills and no refills, so when I run out, I have to go back to the clinic and talk to him. I do not have a car so this is very inconvenient and tiring. These pills are meant to be taken long-term (one is an anti-depressant and the other is to treat a chronic digestive disorder) so there is no reason why he would want to see me every month when I need a refill. If you are generally in good health and only have to see a doctor once a year he'll probably be fine for you but I would not recommend him to anybody.

Dr. Shabbir Hassan is an outstanding family physician. He not only addresses the patient, but also makes an effort to speak with the entire family present--in our case, the appointment was originally for my husband, but Dr. Hassan acknowledged me and my son as well--unlike some family doctors who completely ignore the surrounding support system for the patient. He asked relevant questions in regards to my husband's health and actually engaged him in conversation about HIS health. In our past experience, some doctors do not even give you eye contact let alone discuss your health issues in depth. He was very professional and even took the time to check on my son who had come down with a fever the previous night. The reception staff in the TransCanada Clinic were very difficult to communicate with and had a lot of issues when it came to scheduling, faxing or any other reception duties, but his new staff is very accommodating and helpful. Don't judge Dr. Hassan based on the reception staff in the previous clinic--his new clinic is clean, organized and has huge potential based on the space available--there is also a pharmacy within the clinic. If your looking for a new family doctor, I would definitely recommend Dr. Shabbir Hassan!
