Dr. Hoogerboord performed my colon cancer surgery in 2017 , and my four colonoscopies since then. Everything is still clean. I hope he’ll continue to do any follow-ups; he’s an excellent, caring surgeon.

This site shows "9 of 56 general surgeons in Halifax" but Dr. Hoogerboord is #1 as far as I'm concerned. After a misdiagnosed appendicitis at the ER back in 2002 resulting in 3 bowel surgeries (by different surgeons) and many trips to the ER with bowel blockages over the past 20 years, Dr. Hoogerboord came to my rescue.
He fit me in his busy schedule within a week in November, 2022 and did an 8 hour , very detailed surgery.
There have been no blockages or bowel issues since then and I believe there won't be.
Dr. Hoogleboord and his teem are THE BEST as is, Juanita, his secretary.

Dr. Hoogerboord is a great surgeon and he actually cares. I had a nasty fistula and an anal abscess that bothered me over the years, and recently it went out of control. Dr. Hoogerboord performed a very difficult and complicated surgery where he attacked both problems at once.
He took his time prior to the surgery to explain the details of the procedure to me, and his medical staff was very helpful for me to feel relaxed.
He checked in with me a few weeks after the surgery and took his time and provided me with detailed answers both about the surgery that I had, and post-surgery care and the next steps. He is very knowledgeable in his field.
The fact that he took his time out of his busy schedule and cared enough about his patience to offer detailed answers was a refreshing experience, given the fact that we have only very few surgeons in his field in the whole province. I am very grateful for the excellent work he did and the fact that he really cares.

On Tuesday, January 19, 2021, Dr. Hoogerboord and his team radically improved my life, and I am very grateful. He repaired a hernia that had bothered me for years. My wife Caroline and I are walkers, and because of the excellent care I received, I can now freely walk and hold her hand. Previously, because I use a cane, I had to use my one free hand to hold the hernia in so I could walk. Now, no more holding myself together, no more pain, and I enjoy an increased quality of life.

I was also blessed because a medical professional listened to me for the first time in many years when I told him I was a bleeder and would need vitamin K to control my bleeding and prevent complications. When I had prostate surgery some years ago, no one listened, and I was readmitted twice because the bleeding would not stop. I have had several surgeries, but this one was my first complication-free surgery in my adult life, and I am now 70. Not only was I given vitamin K after the surgery, but I was also given another medication during the surgery to control bleeding.

The surgery was physically healing, and being heard and respected, and treated kindly was emotionally healing, especially after so much previous medical trauma.

Excellent surgeon! Waited a long while for the referral but once I got in for hernia assessment, everything moved along at a great pace. Super knowledgeable, very efficient staff and the entire Dartmouth general team were fantastic. At 59 this was my first surgery of any sort, and although I hope to never need surgery again, if I do it will be with Dr. Hoogerboord. Thank you.

Dr Hoogerboord is a great surgeon. He genuinely cares for his patients. I suffered for years with reflux symptoms. He repaired my hiatal hernia and I now I can eat food without getting sick and I can sleep through the night without having to sleep sitting up. I have a new life. His surgical team and his administration were kind and caring as well. Thank you Dr Hoogerboord!

I am hoping to see Doctor Hoogerboord soon s I am suffering so badly. I haven't been able to work for 4 month's I have to wear these strapped things to hold myself together. I am so sick and have trouble breathing or clearing my lungs. With Cervical rotation syndrome and lumbar rotation syndrome, it complicates my injuries, and talking to doctors who don't listen is nothing new to anyone who's been to the QE2 emergency with Dr. Janet Macintyre at the helm and her Peter Heco program finally being unmasked she is overflowing with the toxin. Soon they will be answering for that mess. I saw Doctor Hoogerboord once and other than having to wait for my health to be returned. I have been a lot worse since seeing Dr. Hoogerboord. Hopefully I will be getting help soon. Dr. Janet Macintyre is a terrible doctor. Dismissing people when she did not do any examination. The world of doctors in Canada is crumbling before us.

I have had 3 surgeries in the past 2 yrs. First 2 in Truro then I had the great fortune to be referred to Dr. Hoogerboord for my 3rd bowel surgery. This dr not only masterminded my problem but in a 7 hr surgery he skillfully put my body back in a 100% functioning position again. He is my hero!! Very well mannered and genuinely cares for his patients and their recovery. I strongly recommend this wonderful surgeon to anyone in need of bowel care. He's THE BEST!!

In 2014 This brilliant man replaced my complete abs with six straps of my lats in a 10 hr Surgery . Unbelievable WORK. In 2017 I had to have Surgery again to fix 2 more MASSIVE hernias .Both rib cages . In 7 hr Surgery he put me back together and let me tell you , it is strong . In Feb this year , This brilliant man did a colonoscopy. I was diagnosed with right colon CANCER . On April 02 , 2020 in 81/2 hr Surgery , Laprascopiclly removed right COLON. NO COLOSCOMY BAG. 8 HRS BECAUSE OF mesh and scar tissue but so very successful. DR.Hoogerboord Rocks ! If you require SURGERY , YOU NEED THIS SURGEON! HE is THE BEST .
