First time at a pain clinic. Dr. Hoogeveen listened to my concerns. I did not feel rushed at all, he took the time to explain treatment options to manage my pain. Receptionist was very polite and friendly. I’m happy I was referred to this amazing team

I've seen multiple doctors in his addiction group and they are all the same. Only care about your OHIP card and that's it. The first visit gives you the impression that they care, but after that initial visit it's all down hill from their. Lucky to get a 5 minute appointment before you're rushed out the door. Hoogeveen thinks he knows everything (or at least that's what he says), but he really doesn't and can care less about you than your worst enemy. I'm on my way to switching clinics all together. I know there are better clinics in Orillia than this clown and his group. Another thing I found funny was the way he talks about Midland as if it's the centre of the universe. C'mon man....what are you talking about. He must have family and friends from Midland for generations, but it's nothing special. Hard to even find a 24h drug store. Maybe a great place to retire, but nothing there for us young folk.

I had this doctor and he's wouldn't do his job when you have to work so I was very sick and get drugs off the street because he doesn't scam enough money from the system

I have been going to Dr. Hoogeveen off and on for 10 years. He has been very helpful and encouraging. He has given me referrals when I asked about something new I found and is always very thorough, which makes him behind sometimes. The staff is also very good.

Not sure how he can call himself a Specialist in Pain Management. My medication and treatment plan was never changed from my family doctor even though I was referred to him because my level of pain was getting worse and affecting every part of my life.
I am not a drug seeker - I have been a long time Migraine sufferer and have done a lot of self research to avoid "retrying" the same things over and over again that haven't worked in the past. I prefer to use new options, combined options that haven't been tried or failed before and like to know what the potential long term risks and side affects are of doing things for an extended period of time are.
Does this make me a difficult patient? I prefer to say informed.
My pain level has not decreased since starting my visits at the clinic. I am frustrated with his lack of compassion on how this disability is affecting my life and his lack of knowledge in anything other than nerve blocks and botox.

Not impressed.
Staff at the front is wonderful - couldn't ask for kinder/friendlier reception.
Nurse is "ok" - not overly friendly but does her job.
Dr Hoogeveen himself is behind with his patients more than he is on time. He reads his notes from previous visit, asks how you are without really asking how you are and if you have any questions or concerns about his treatment plan/course of action - his back goes up/he gets on the defensive and you might as well add your file to the several boxes piled in the corner of other past patients who probably did the same "closed patient files". My guess his 2 main courses of action are botox and nerve block. If you don't respond to either of those, or opt not to try them he will suggest you are better off at another clinic and refer you on. Not a specialist in Pain Management at all - very narrow minded, not willing to explore other options or discuss avenues in dealing with day to day chronic pain and treatment options.
Hope the clinic in Barrie has more to offer than just his way or ?

Dr. H trained with my pain doctor, Dr. Shamess in Sault Ste. Marie on giving pain shots and epidurals and willingly saw me when I would go down to eastern ON for the summer. His office was helpful, prompt and took in more information than my current doctor for each visit, letting me know he wanted to know not only how you were today but for the last few weeks. He is gentle when giving shots, and thorough in his assessments and consultations. Staff was wonderful! Thanks so much on seeing me on a temporary basis so I didn't have to drive 10 hours back home to see my regular pain doc!

This was my 1st visit to a pain management clinic. i found as soon as i walked in the door, they had known me forever. ALL staff i had encountered were extreamly curtious, friendly and knowlqgabbe, willing to answer any and all qustions regarless how silly i thought it may be. Dr.Hoogeveen, was incredible patient with me and listened to all my concerns and problems. He explained things in laymens terms. All in all it was the very best experience i have had visiting with a doctor, and i have been to several over the last 5years. 10 star rating from me. j. jamieson barrie
