Very dirty, especially in the green section of emergency. They "accidentally tore out my mom's IV and the blood laid all over the floor and bed for days. The staff don't familiarize themselves with patient files and medical conditions... every shift change the new nurse would yank on my mom's arm with a torn rotator cuff and a fractured humerus. Other patients were crying in pain and screaming ouch when nurses were in the room. Other patients crying for blankets because they're freezing. The halls are so crouded with old bandages laying in various places and could never pass a fire safety test. Staff socializing for 20 min at a time and arguing with patients and family. Pretty unreal. When she got a room, it was clean and most of the staff was kind and helpful... but not all of course. The food!!!! I mean, oh my goodness! Whoever got that contract is clearly someone's friend and has "0" zero knowledge of nutrition. I had to bring my mom her meals and healthy snacks everyday. WILD!

My mother had a fall in the snow, she dislocated and fractured her ankle in numerous places. There were no issues with the emergency care she received, they reset the bones, gave her a temporary plaster cast, advised that she would need to return the following day for surgery and discharged her. We were advised that surgery priority was based on severity of injuries, understandable, and that they would call the following day between 8am and 9am to confirm whether she would make the surgery list. She could not eat anything past midnight the day prior to surgery and no liquids three hours before her surgery. It is now five days after her fall and she has been bumped from the surgery list each day, but here is wherein lies the issue, they do not tell us by 9am if she’s a go for that day, most days we have been kept on the hook until late afternoon, one day it wasn’t until after 6pm they finally called to tell us the surgery would not be that day. During one of the cancellation calls we were told she was definitely on the list for 11:30am the following day and they would call by 9 am that day to confirm. By 11am that day we still had not received a call so we called the hospital, reception was incredibly rude and said ‘they would not have given you a time slot, don’t call back until after 4:30pm.’ My mother gets low blood sugar, it makes her quite dizzy and causes a loss of balance, therefore not eating or drinking until the afternoon or evening, coupled with the loss of mobility of her broken leg are a recipe for disaster. I’m very concerned further injuries are going to result from this situation. RVH’s follow through with the communication timelines they promised is dismal and the administrative staff are unhelpful and discourteous.

If your going to give birth to this hospital, go to a different hospital because I was there in labour for my first child and it was the worst nurse ever named PATTY she had a bob cut dark hair try to force a epidural on me when I didn’t want it they called cas on myself and husband because I didn’t want to epidural and they wanted me to go home and leave my son there never again will I ever go back to royal Victoria hospital because they are deranged and I know my human rights. THE WORST EXPERIENCE I give ZERO STARS

I went for an MRI on November 10 2025 and was very impressed with this hospital. First time there and found it was easy to get around, areas clearly marked and the staff were awesome to deal with! Keep up the great work RVH!

I can't say enough wonderful things about my experience at the RVH on 2025 Sep 30. It started with Laura & Yaz, Troy with his wonderful smile and hug as Dr Thornton prepped me for my surgery, Sue in recovery .. thank you for my popsicles they were my fav, Kienan ... I loved your wonderful compassion nature and humor as well and then Aliessa (if I've got the wrong name I'm sorry) my Physio person who along with Kienan stayed the extra time so I could do what I and my body needed to do to go home the same day. I also had the privilege of having Mark Lewis, cool hair, drop in and see the last of us hanging out waiting to go home. Last but not least Dr Ryan Perlus and his team ... THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. Never once did I feel anxious, worried, scared or concerned and you did deliver the hug I had been waiting for when you had the change to drop in on me to see how I was doing in recovery. Looking forward to seeing you next week. THANK YOU to everyone at RVH who played a part in my having an AWESOME experience on that day and caring for me.

Thank you to Dr,Mark Von Allmen and nurse Carol for the through treatment I received while in emergency last week. After being in extreme for 3 days, you addressed my concerns and issues with empathy and understanding. 5 days later I am feeling so much better, thank you.

RVH should be thoroughly cleaned out and people should not be bothering others on the P.A. at their homes since they were discharged from this place. RVH should be able to do surgery here like St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. I really like some of the Surgeons and Specialists at RVH who helped me and still are helping me and I sure appreciate this.

A relative was severely abused during his stay. Administration based their investigation on nurses records which did not show severe bruising and bleeding. Nurses are non responsive , slow, uncaring and abusive. Avoid this hospital.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. the hospital is a busy place, but doesn’t feel that way. Seems to be very active in the community, too
