I have only spoke to this Dr. Once in approx 1.5 years and within this time he has been out of office or dealing with residents who relay messages to him. I’m this time he has screwed up IgG antibody dosages and not given reasons for change in dosages and just extremely difficult to get answers from and just has dropped the ball on so many things. He must have too many cases to manage, or he just should not practice anymore. This is the complete opposite of my usual experience at St. Mikes

Writing this review as I am super surprised to read the other reviews and wanted to provide my experience. Dr. Betschel helped get me on a clinical trial for a life changing drug, and has continued to provide this drug to me as well as check in around my condition for the past eight years. He has been professional, gone out of his way to find solutions and fit me into his schedule, and truly been a life line in a difficult condition that many doctors had no solutions for. I've really appreciated the health care he and his staff have provided.

Not very well-informed. He's obnoxious and contemptuous. Please seek advice from another immunologist. He has no place in an academic institution. You will die before this man can provide you with skilled treatment.
Worst staff I've ever encountered. Do not waste your time scheduling an appointment with this doctor or his office. The office personnel is absolutely unprofessional. They never pick up the phone or call back in a timely manner. People who are only interested in getting money and have no interest in making a difference in people's lives. After three months, the staff makes an appointment for you and does not send you any emails or phone calls to remind you. The doctor will assign you a time and will not call you on that time, and if you miss the doctor's call, you are doomed.

I would not recommend this Dr to anyone. His reputation as being a top specialist is not an accurate reflection . He is not thorough in his investigations and he leaves his patients under diagnosed and suffering. On top of that, his attitude is arrogant, his empathy is non existent, and he is dismissive. . Save yourself the hassle and stress of waiting 6-12 months for an appointment because surely you will be left hanging with disappointment. With so many negative reviews I'm surprised he is still practising.

After reading all the terrible reviews which seem to indicate that this Dr is not well liked, I can confirm that the negative comments are in fact 100% correct. So shocking so, that reading them will serve to validate your bad experience. You are not alone, and yes, he is that much of a problem.

Had to basically beg for In person allergy testing after being referred in January 2021 by an ER doctor after an anaphylactic episode. Took 10 months for this to happen. They never answer phones or emails and he is dismissive and my diagnosis was "you have allergies, manage the symptoms". I have since spoken to my GP who actually listened and agreed I may have a mast cell disorder and has referred me to an allergist who is interested in working with me to come to a definitive diagnosis. Be prepared to be your biggest advocate because dr. Betschel will advocate for you at all

Normally I don’t write negative reviews but the defender review is probably written by the doctor himself.

He’s been passive aggressive in the past. Now he’s non existent during the pandemic. Impossible to get a hold of .

Not all that helpful and definitely not available.

He has his trainees do the work and guess what? If you get a bad one he doesn’t correct them or give you any time.

It amazes me how he ever got to be where he is being unresponsive and certainly not advocating for vaccines. To think that trainees junior doctors have to learn from him worries me

I normally don't like to leave comments, but just felt strongly that I had to after reading the more recent comments on here that these people have it wrong. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion. But when people are complaining about the doctor not being available to suit their schedule or having to leave voicemail messages when calling, etc....??? Totally sounds petty when the reality is that we are in one of the worst pandemic at the moment. Our healthcare system is spread thin and many of our healthcare workers are exhausted as Covid-19 continues on with no end in sight (4th wave and many new variants). We are very lucky with our universal healthcare system when compared to other countries. So stop being so entitled and be more considerate. Don't forget, it is not all about YOU. Appreciate what you have...we have it pretty good.

My experience with Dr. Betschel and his team has only been positive and I can't thank them enough for all that they've done for me. In the past 5 years I've seen quite a few doctors about my rare condition and unfortunately they were not able to properly diagnose my illness until now with Dr. Betschel. My symptoms are now controlled and I'm no longer suffering like before. I am very thankful to Dr. Betschel!

Referrals take precedence over patient care. It would be beneficial if the team received a refresher on client-centered care: It is beneficial to develop a relationship with the patient: terribly dissatisfied
