Dr. Cook saved my life. I ended up with an emergency quadruple bypass. My family and I are so grateful and thank God every day for the gift of Dr. Richard Cook. It has been just about a year and I am forever grateful for the care I received at 2 different hospitals in the lower mainland and the expertise of Dr. Cook and his team.

Dr Cook is a hero he beats any super hero. He saved my husbands life. He got him in quickly as we ended up in emergency room twice. I would only trust him with my husbands open heart surgery. He saved a father of 3 kids and a husband to a wife. At the age of 42 needing quadruple bypass. Dr Richard cook I am so blessed to have you there the day of his angiogram and have you the one that was able to perform his surgery. I hope you know the difference you make in the world.

My dad's original heart surgery with Dr Price at VGH ended up with issues. The wound wasn't fully closing, but they sent us home anyway. I wish we advocated for the doctor to take it more seriously at the time. A month later, the bottom of his chest incision was oozing in a color that was concerning, and it was clear there was something seriously wrong.

We arrived at VGH Emergency and he was seen by Dr Cook. He has a great bedside manner and I felt very confident when meeting with him. My dad's original heart surgery had complications and the surgeon had to go back in, but didn't close up his rib cage well. Maybe due to the super long day?

Ended up with an infection of the bone, and Dr Cook had to cut off some of the ribs. I'm glad that we ended up having Dr Cook for his subsequent surgery, but wish he was our initial surgeon. Thank you so much for taking care of my dad the second time around and just being personable in our brief interactions.

Dr. Cook combines excellent care and kindness with utmost competence. My husband had a mitral valve repair with him, and Dr. Cook’s ability to do the repair using a small slit between the ribs meant a fast recovery and avoidance of a replacement valve. We are so happy with the results and are indebted to this man’s talents and expertise for my husband’s complete return to heart health. His follow-up care was excellent and timely as well.

In April 2016, Mitral valve repair, annuloplasty ring implantation, VGH done on me by Dr. Richard Cook. Originally sent for minimally invasive procedure, but due to previous medical issues, open heart surgery was done. Dr Cook was very confident and reassuring (I was 57) even when I was cancelled while on the gurney in pre-op. He had a emergency call to save someone else's life on that day. 1 week delay. 4 years on, I feel great, recovered quick, I watched the same surgery on u-tube and now I have an even greater regard for Dr. Cook. I can't believe the care and knowledge required to do this. Saved my life, and I'm forever grateful.
Thank You and your team.

I recently had minimally invasive mitral valve repair surgery performed by Dr. Cook at VGH. Prior to surgery, Dr. Cook explained how this would proceed and answered my questions. My surgery went very well. Dr. Cook is very knowledgeable and professional. Today I had a follow up appointment with him and had post operation questions answered. Thank you Dr. Cook.

Dr. Cook, Richard Chung-Sop. He performed minimally invasive valve repair surgery on me. As a result I got to avoid the valve replacement and the years of being on blood thinners and other complications that that would have entailed. He's super professional and skilled, I doubt you can find a better surgeon in the Lower Mainland for your cardiac issue
