Just returned home after driving five hours in to Calgary to see Dr. Macdonald on recommendation from a friend. What a pivotal experience in health care....this Dr. gets it. He was punctual, friendly and just so immensely knowledgeable about my knee issue that I've spent the last hours of my drive thinking about the disparity between the public system and what he is offering at his private knee clinic. I was given as much opportunity to ask questions as I needed, and his explanations, diagnosis and recommendations for care were crystal clear. I've honestly never had such a good interaction with a specialist, and it was worth the drive for the information alone.

Having effectively resolved my knee and back problems, Dr MacDonald and his colleagues are unfailingly patient, thorough and knowledgeable at every follow up visit. As others have noted, the contrast with the public system is striking, and I am grateful to Dr MacDonald for enabling me to return to my full and active life

I have been visiting this clinic for over 10 years and they are my most trusted/reliable physicians - always very knowledgable about treatment options and always considerate of my long term well being. I use this clinic for almost all of their services provided because I always leave with relief and confidence.

Dr. Macdonald gave me the life I love back. I was told by a sports medicine doctor that my knee injury was untreatable and that it would be best to give up the sport I love, tennis. I was in acute pain and asked about pain management and was told if I kept taking pain killers I would ruin my kidneys. I left the office feeling like Humpty Dumpty. I was devastated. Within10 minutes of my visit with Dr Macdonald he noticed deep bone bruising on the MRI which had been missed by the other doctor and the radiologist, the cause of my intense pain and making me nearly immobile. He laid out a treatment plan and assured me that I would be playing tennis again in about 3 months. It is now 3 months later and yes I am playing tennis again. I think Dr Macdonald is a genius. He made a plan for my recovery which I have followed meticulously and here I am, happy as could be. He has a team that is also to be commended. We in Calgary are lucky to have a knee specialist doctor of this calibre in our city which you can see without much of a wait. I am a proponent of public health but sad to say it failed me miserably. The contrast between my public health visit and Dr Macdonald at The Knee Clinic was frankly shockingly opposite. I left his office feeling like the weight of the world was off my shoulders and that I was in the hands of a true knee specialist keen to get me back to the active life I love. Visiting Dr. Mcdonald was the best money I ever spent.

Saw this Doctor for an acute knee injury.

Appointments with this doctor always felt rushed and unpleasant.

Doctor did a brief ultrasound and made comments about the extent of injury and the "unhappy triad" of injured structures that were seen.
I did an MRI the following week and it did not show that the injury was as significant as stated (as explained to me by another physician).

I felt coerced into buying the most expensive knee brace and PRP injections as the ONLY option presented for recovery (+ physio that likely did really help my knee).

See other reviews below that elude to similar experiences.

I ended up seeing other physicians for my issue and my impression was that the brace was either overkill or not needed. Cheaper alternatives could have been at least discussed. The brace never did fit quite right (refittings were offered and took one that did nothing really -- only adjusted a couple of pads) and now sits on a shelf. ,
PRP sales pitch was convincing, but also not sure if was worth the risks involved for this injury.

    In addition:
Also was "included" in fees to visit the doctor (meaning I indirectly paid for) was a "complimentary inflammatory consultation". I can;t believe that anything at the clinic was truly "complimentary".
This was a visit with another physician that was a waste of time for my obvious knee issue related to an acute injury.
It was akin to someone telling you to "eat well while you recover"...and not much more than that.

Overall poor experience and recommend to keep searching for your required physician.

Dr. Macdonald was able to treat my knee and diagnose it within the first few minutes of our visit even though my previous doctor told me something else. I came back to the clinic for treatment and was better almost instantly. Very knowledgeable, but I really appreciated that he explained what was going on and let me ask as many question as I wanted which seems so rare these days. So happy with my visit!
