I dated Dinah. Wonderful woman and was blown away by her capability to help others in need. When I ended relationship I asked why she was herself, so nuts, and Dinah said
"Have you ever heard the shoemakers son has no shoes". Bless her heart.

I am so relieved other people found her mean. She was downright cruel to me. I was desperate for help with a life threatening eating disorder. Her office stunk like mold and was something out of 1972. She said you could not arrive more than 5 minutes early because she didn't want you to hear her other patients. When my good friend died of complications to her eating disorder, she told me I had a "fixation with death" and thought that I was suicidal and "wanted to join my friend". She went so far as threatening to form me when I never uttered a word about suicide or wanting to die. I wanted to LIVE that's why I was there begging for help as I needed inpatient treatment so badly and could not access any. She was consistently WAY off base, didn't know me at all and made nasty, jabbing comments at me in every session. The last straw was her prescribing of anti-psychotics which I did not need. Took one pill, couldn't get out of bed for 4 days. Her reasoning? "It will help you think clearer". I couldn't think my way out of a paper sack. My parents had to come from out of town to care for me because I literally could not keep my eyes open for more than 10 minutes for 4 whole days after ONE of these pills. I fired her after that, in person. I was proud to announce, since I pay taxes, I can fire you, and after you tried to chemically lobotomize me YOU ARE SO FIRED! She has retired and run off to Israel, so the people of Toronto are safe! I will never forget this horrible woman. God forbid you went to the front door on your first appointment and didn't go around to the back gate through that jungle she called a garden. What a nightmare!

I do not find this Doctor mean. I have been seeing Dr. Power for therapy for several years. She has helped me move forward through many difficult problems. Me, as well as my family, are in a much better place because of her excellent care and practice.

I completely agree...WHY are YOU so mean??? p.s. i ended up getting over that thing you said i wouldn't ever get over with the help of another psychiatrist.

This doctor tells it like it is. Dr. Power assessed me in 1996, and told me that she thought there was nothing she could do for me. She said that I was in need of many services which she simply could not provide. She was correct. I didn't know at the time that I suffered from ADHD. Dr. Power, like most psychiatrists, was not trained to diagnose ADHD (which is considered to be a learning disability, not a medical disorder), and so did not recognize my symptoms. Another doctor was able to make the diagnosis, and I'm in much better shape now. I found Dr. Power to be honest and straightforward. She has superior communication skills and great understanding of people. She wastes no time, and if she can't help she'll say so. I think this doctor can probably be quite helpful to patients who do have treatable psychiatric disorders.
