I cannot say enough about Dr West. I am here to celebrate another birthday (tomorrow). I trust him explicitly! I am thankful I was put in his hands. I don’t wish for anyone to have to meet him like I did but if you need to see a GYNONC he’s your man! Been his patient for just about 5 yrs

Dr West is a wonderful Dr, he's been treating me for the last year and a half. Answers questions honestly and I like that he acts in a professional manner.

Dr. West and his office staff were quite nice. However, when I asked him if he was going to biopsy what turned out to be a dermoid cyst, he told me I had cancer and it was just a matter of finding out what stage it was in and whether it had spread which would be diagnosed, sent to Pathology while I was on the operating table. Thankfully, it was not cancer but he also performed a total hysterectomy when only one ovary was affected by the cyst. I had requested he not remove anything other than what was necessary. My husband and daughter were present during that conversation. I got a serious infection right after surgery and was in the hospital for about 1 month. Dr. West reopened the incision bed side to release the pus from the infection without telling the nurse so I could be sedated, which caused excruciating pain. I still have nightmares and repercussions from his treatment. I would advise all patients to run not walk to any other oncologist.

First of all, Dr. West saved my life. He is THE BEST doctor I have ever known. Always professional, caring, and available. The day of my surgery for a 7.5 pound 10 inch tumor, I was delayed as his expertise was needed with another patient during the middle of their surgery. No problem. Around 7:30 that evening I asked a nurse if he would be coming by to check on me and she said he may have gone home or at least on his way out the door . Understandable. Around 10:30 that same night, he showed up in his usual suit and tie to check on me. I was astounded. During the next several weeks, he answered all of my questions and I found myself laughing again during visits. He even showed my husband how to pack my bandage. I don't know how he could have helped me any more than he did. I am so thankful the my regular GYN recommended him.

I am unsure as to where any negative comments can come from regarding Dr. West or the staff. My mother was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer and required immediate surgery and treatment. Dr. West and the women's health staff have been the most sincere, caring, and attentive medical staff I have ever been around. My mother is my entire world and we cannot thank them enough. We have the utmost confidence and respect for Dr. West and would recommend him to anyone in need of a gynecologic oncologist. THANK YOU DR. WEST

I am submitting this review on behalf of family, concerning our deceased mother. I have lived in many places, know people quite well and don't expect superior customer service. But, Dr. Randal West is naturally condescending, detached and arrogant. Through the psychological aspects of medical training as a doctor, he consistently coerced our mother for permission of a few unnecessary surgical procedures. Whenever the family communicated disapproval and further explanation (because our mother was incoherent, due to excessive amounts of drugs administered), he surly mumbled some medical jargon and walked away. His staff provided inconsistent updates and reports DAILY on our mother's progress, or lack thereof. Litigation has been taken against Dr. West. Eventually, she passed away because of complications from the surgery. Dr. Randal J. West comes highly unrecommended!

Terrible bedside manner. May have medical knowledge, but so do many others in the Richmond area. I chose to leave and find a physician with both. Much happier and more comfortable with a physician who actually cares.
