Dr. Sumner is very attentive and ensures I understand his diagnosis of my issues. After being prescribed beta blockers (despite having low blood pressure and healthy resting heart rate) and having negative side effects that both my previous cardiologist and my family doctor suggested I would be on until I had ablation surgery, Dr. Sumner suggested I could take a “pill in the pocket” approach. I now take my beta blockers and anti-arrhythmia drugs when I know I am in atrial fibrillation. And I take my blood thinners after afibbing for about a month (or until I slip back out of sinus).

Needless to say, quality of life “up”; knowledge of my condition “up”; other areas of my life “up”. Happy again. Thanks Dr. Sumner!

Very professional and competent. I got outstanding service from a very busy doctor. Takes his work seriously and works hard to care for patient's needs.

We were referred to Dr Sumner to check out arrhythmia problems to make sure the problem would not jeopardize a planned surgery to fix valve problems. After a detailed first consultation followed by a longtime event monitor test, the result was that there was no arrhythmia discovered. When asked why there were these heavy palpitations, fluctuating heart rates up to 150pulses/min the doctor said that he did not know. Though an echocardiogram showed major valve leakage, a severely enlarged left atrium and an opening between the atria, Dr Sumner stated that there was nothing wrong or in need of fixing. Seeing Dr Sumner was of little use and outright frustrating. To dismiss serious symptoms and not referring the patient to another specialist if he did not know how to approach the problem is cruel, unprofessional and irresponsible. The narrow approach Dr Sumner takes is of little help; but looking beyond the rim of his plate seems not be this "specialists" attitude.

Very competent. If you want someone to sit by your bed and listen to all your complaints about the world, find someone else. He's a busy professional who's expert in his field, not a hand-holding GP.
