I was diagnosed with colon cancer in March 2023 and was referred to Dr. Malik. I had met him before when he did a procedure last year.
Dr. Malik is very kind with an upbeat attitude and a great sense of humor. He booked me for a right hemicolectomy with laparoscopic. When I was being prepped for the procedure he spent time with me to reassure me that we'll have a great outcome. My operation took about 2 hours. Within a 2 hour window after the operation I was awake and calling family members from the recovery room. He did such a wonderful job that I didn't even need a catheter and was out of bed that very night.
I spent 5 days in hospital following the operation and received wonderful care at VGH.
It's now 1 month post operation and he personally called me today to let me know that all the cancer was removed and my lymph nodes are clear. I'll be returning to work in 3 days from now.
In short he's a writer surgeon and a really nice guy. I'm very fortunate to have had him as my surgeon. Sherri from his office stayed in touch with me and always answered my questions promptly and was extremely kind.

Hernia repair went perfectly. Left hospital with 10 tramadol; took only 2. Pain far less than expected, which I think is confirmation of the quality of Dr. Malik's work.

Only experiencing enough tenderness to remind me to be careful for a few days.

Doctor malik Is an extremely good surgeon

An excellent surgeon who takes time to talk with you and makes you feel comfortable

First colonoscopy and it was fine, he had a light touch, no pain in my case, fortunately.

Dr. Malik was great. I had a pretty simple surgery to remove my appendix but he came in full of good humor and good energy and explain things great detail so I know what was happening. I enjoyed his company as much as I appreciated the great care he gave me. Great doctor in my experience!

I recently saw Dr. Malik and was very disappointed in how he handled my emotional reaction to being examined. I was in pain and also just struggled with the vulnerability aspect. I'm glad to hear others had such a positive experience and perhaps as a surgeon, he's more effective than in a consultation where I found him condescending and insensitive to my anxiety and pain with being examined. He kept saying ' That didn't go well' and ' I can't help you with your stress management. You need to talk to your GP( I already knew that!). I think this could have been handled a bit more gently and patiently. I want to believe he had good intentions to help but I think if you are on the sensitive side or have anxiety around being examined or a low pain tolerance, be prepared for his more curt demeanor( or find someone else if possible). I hope others have better experiences!

He saved my life. He is an angel. He reaffirmed my faith in the medical community. I have had many health issues and no one has ever cared for me the way Dr. Malik did. To those people who are giving him negative reviews - I think the problem is probably you. He is the best.
