I was referred to Dr. Richard Fox by my Neurologist to determine is back surgery was an option for issues I had walking, pain and my feet going numb. Dr. Fox was personable, knowledgable, kind, outstanding and explained the surgery he recommended thoroughly. I felt like he listened to and heard what I was saying about the pain and numbness I was experiencing which had not been the case with previous Dr’s I had visited with the same complaints.. My appointment was December 12th, 2023 and I had back surgery on January 19th, 2024 at the Albert Surgery Group (ASG) facility. This facility and the staff are outstanding. I just can’t say enough good things about Dr Fox, his staff, the other Dr’s and nursing staff at ASG.

Dr. Fox is an incredible, extremely down to earth, genuine doctor I have ever met or interacted with. He just preformed my 3rd spine related surgery over 14 years. I am on day 3 post surgery and everything that was stuck, pinched or numb is already gone. I am walking around un assist and already feeling stronger. I can’t say enough about this great man and if I had to use one word to describe him to a stranger it would be empathy. He truly cares about his patients. Respect for his talent, empathy, obvious knowledge and experience, skills, caring bedside manner, is how I would describe this brilliant neurosurgeon.

Dr. Fox is an exemplary doctor and caring person. His care in determining the cause of a rare spinal cord stroke I suffered after two bouts of cancer, was incredible. He performed a spinal tap himself when it was delayed through normal channels. He checked on me personally every day for the two weeks I was in hospital to check my process and has called since my return home. A very kind and caring doctor whose genuine approach helped me through a very difficult time.

One of the most amazing doctors you will have the chance to see. Highly knowledgeable, skilled, empathetic and ethical. His staff and team embody a culture of kindness and care that clearly starts with him. He removed my first Sarcoma tumor and replaced a vertebrae in 2008 and after changing my life, he has followed my case as though he is my primary doctor ever since (now at 5 related surgeries). He has ensured the best surgeons and oncologists have participated when the surgeries have been outside his core area of expertise but I see him visit my bedside after each stay. I typically spend 5-10 days in hospital after each surgery and have watched how he interacts with other patients sharing a hospital room with me and have regularly observed him help other doctors patients when in the room to check in on me. One of the truly amazing souls who is gifted and caring. He is pragmatic and knows when / how to intervene and when it is better not to and although that may be hard to hear at times, it is one more skill he has mastered but delivers his plan with tact and compassion even when relaying hard messages.

I was referred to Dr Richard Fox on my own request for a second opinion. I waited a couple of weeks having not heard from him, I called and my call went to voicemail mail. I left a message for his secretary that I was referred there, that I am suppose to have a brain surgery in 2 months and that I am looking to schedule ASAP. Another week came and went with no call back. I decided to go in person to University hospital to see if I could speak to the doctor’s secretary. The covid team would not let me in without an appointment but they gave me phone number which was actually answered by Dr Fox’s secretary. She told me that they sent my referral back to my family doctor 9 days ago because Dr Fox has a 2 year waiting list to see him and he is not doing second opinions. About 5 minutes after this call was over, I got a call from the secretary of the doctor who gave the first opinion saying that she heard that I was trying to book an appointment with Dr Richard Fox and what’s going on with that. I found myself having to explain to her that I wanted a second opinion for piece of mind and that I am still desperate to have surgery to release my symptoms and will not be delaying surgery. It is insane to me that this person who would not even help me went out of her way to break my privacy and to call another Dr’s office. I am a first time mom of a 9 month old baby. I am 33 years old and going for major brain surgery, supposably in 2 weeks if the 1st opinion didn’t change his mind after being told falsely that I am looking around and not ready for surgery! I am scared and just trying to get as much information as possible for piece of mind.
I want to be clear though that I never met Dr Richard Fox and I am not reviewing him but rather the secretary who took it upon herself to play with my life like that

Dr Fox was my fathers surgeon when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour. He performed 2 biopsy surgeries as the first biopsy came back inconclusive. Unfortunately the second result was an aggressive brain tumour. Dr Fox always made time for my father. Would call us when we needed support and always ensured my father was provided with the correct support. He went above and beyond! Thank you, Dr Fox for all of your support, kindness and compassion. It was really appreciated when were facing terminal cancer.
