Dr. Movahed is the kindest surgeon I have ever met. He will consult with you and create a treatment plan for non-surgical management with all possible therapies and referrals first before jumping into planning for surgery, unless you are at the end stage and surgery is the only option of course. His staff is very helpful and informative about how out-of-network reimbursement works, what to expect along the way, and what steps to take with your insurance company to file a request for exceptions to see him right away before ever paying your fees. He explains his plan well and will call you personally to check in if you are having any issues!

Not enough time in the day to rave about Dr.movahed. He truly gave me my life back and I’m only 7 weeks post op. This office has become family and I couldn’t of gotten through the 2 yrs prior of pain without them. Forever grateful to have him in Stl and the staff he has. He is no sugar coater and told me everything to expect. Forever thankful

He lied to me too! Brought my bottom jaw out 11mm to far, left my top jaw back, imagine what that looks like. He said your gonna look great knows worries at all! I was left with a worse double chin, can you imaging how your skin lays when your bottom jaw is out 11mm more than the top. I look hidious! Another surgeon tild me he skimmed on me thinking he could just have a prothodonist build my false top teeth out over the bottom ones. That wasn't easy because you have to have enough of your top lip cover the teeth. Since the teeth have to be built so far out, it stretched the gums under top lip, and completely ripped. I have the best and honest prothodonist who is left trying to fix Dr. Movaheds mess. He put in implants, that will have eventually have to be replaced. He told me i would wake up with teeth, i was left with just implants hanging in my mouth for nearly 6 months. When he did get time to make me teeth i woke up and one side had been broken off during surgery, my whole face was swollen, just to screw some teeth in. He didn't even tell me he had broken the hidious teeth they had made, my husband told me. My maxifacial told me he should have brought my top jaw forward, but it cant be done now because he screwed in zygomatic implants. I told Courtney what the maxifacial doctor said, she said " Oh No" that would have made your top lip left just hanging. Well the other doctors said that was a lie. Dr. Movahed and Courtney lied to me over and over. They do not take responsibility for anything they lie about or do wrong. They only care about themselves and money. Please please do not take your chances. There are other Doctors to do jaw surgery. Dr. Sullivan in Oklahoma is a wonderful Dr.

I was going to wait to write a review until after my full recovery, but when you find a gem, you want to share the experience with the whole world! Why wait ?! My story is long, but to summarize...another specialist in my state recommended me to go to Dr. Movahed for DJS. I did NOT want this surgery, but was told if my jaws don’t get moved significantly forward soon, I would continue to have problems with breathing, sleep apnea, grogginess, fatigue, air cut off during sleep, swallowing, amongst a plethora of other problems. I was even told I could have a heart attack at an early age (currently I’m 39). I flew out of state with a mad attitude (doctors are a joke, they are only money hungry, surgery is going to be a nightmare, I’m not going to wake up from anesthesia, etc etc ...). The minute I stepped in the office, observed, got the process rolling with staff, assistants, surgeon...I thought “this is like watching a great sitcom where the doctor office is like a “too good to be true” scenario!! Upon meeting Dr Movahed ....yeah....he’s not likeable...he’s flat out lovable ! He’s got a special anointing on him from God himself! His character, charisma, kindness & intelligence is ufff...more than I’ve ever experienced from any doctor. My DJS surgery...huge ordeal & I write this on day 11post-op...but none of my fears ever came to pass...i had ZERO bruising, minimal swelling, & get this...minimal pain. How is that possible with all that was done ? I’m mind-blown. I switched to OTC meds after a few days & I usually can’t handle pain well....especially anything face-related. I was unexpectedly emotional with tears of gratitude on today’s consult. He just took a tissue himself & dried my cheeks & gave me words of encouragement. That moment will be a forever snap-shot in my memory....along with the pats on the shoulder & hugs. The quality of my life has already improved & we are on day 11 , people ! He will hold a special place in my heart forever (literally ) because he just added more years to my life. My heart was going to give out, I believe. He just breathed more life back into mine by making a way for me to breathe normally. Please please do yourself the best thing on this side of the earth & see this doctor. Don’t mess around with doc hopping. Your heart, your family, your friends, & you yourself will be forever grateful. Go on & “move ahead “ with the “move a head” surgery (play on his name Movahed! Don’t steal it! It’s my pun ! Lol) Sorry this was LONG, but you can’t write a short review on something so life-changing! ❤️

In 2017, Reza Movahed, with the help of William Hang, an orthodontist near L.A., completely destroyed the aesthetics of my face, my entire appearance, my bite, and also my health. I was a simple case of arthritic joints and an open anterior bite. I had minor PRE sleep apnea before Dr. Hang advanced my palate, and then that was cured, so that by surgery, I had no chronic pain (never did), no sleep apnea, and zero sinus problems of any sort (never did). Somehow Reza has been able to get the review site folks to regularly remove bad reviews, and somehow, docs and orthos in the L.A. area continue referring patients to Movahed, saying he is "the best with aesthetics", as Hang did and still does (so I've heard), despite knowing of aesthetic disasters like mine that Reza has caused. They convinced me that the surgery, in conjunction with the orthodontics would restore the appearance to more of what it would have been like had I not had permanent teeth pulled as a child. Nothing could have been further from the truth. Reza altered everything about my face that made me, ME, to the point of not being recognizable. He widened my face so much that it looked like someone put a heavy flat weight on it, causing it to be flat, sunken in, and so wide that my eyes look so small on my face now. Once my best feature, the eyes are now inconsequential on my face. Once getting compliments weekly by total strangers on my eyes, I have not gotten a compliment on my eyes once since my surgery. I went from a heart shaped face to a big squarish face. Perhaps this is why he chose to leave my chin way too far out, to give some sort of dimension to it, to balance out the flat, square look, but the effect was a witch chin, exceeding the distance of my nose. And a way to giant/wide chin. And too much lower teeth showing. Overall jaw line like Sling Blade Billy Bob Thornton's character or Mark Cuban. I'm a woman, so this was a hideous outcome. My prior open bite was "fixed" only to be replaced with three other types of malocclusion, making chewing and muscle tension issues far worse than ever! He left my maxilla up so high and further back than before so that my teeth disappeared by 50-75% upon talking and smiling, and the area under my nose was flattened. Smile not pronounced. The nose drastically changed which he also knew would happen but totally lied and downplayed it. I found out after that there is a predictive formula that oral surgeons know, to predict what the nose changes will be based on amount of movement of jaws. This guy has zero clue on how changes to bones affect all other aspects of the face such as eyes, chin, etc. He also destroyed my health by reducing turbinates unnecessarily (even based on the criteria used in his own trials done in residency). Everything I achieved in 2 years of orthodontics, (from a better, more pronounced and curved smile, to a less flat face, to more joint comfort was totally un-done by Reza's one surgery on me. A fortune wasted on both surgery and orthodontics, a horrific recovery of 3 months, all for nothing!!! And once fake joints are in, and bone grafts are done, you really cannot restore your prior face. You can pay for other surgeons to attempt some fixes. You can spend another two years in braces and another maxilla surgery but your face will not be the same ever again. The guy never thought to tell me that the procedures he/they were recommending would literally alter my appearance from the person I was and always had been. I no longer resemble any family members! Pretty important conversation to have with a patient, and he never did. In fact, afterwards, he and Dr. Hang said that Reza gave me the bone structure of a model!! SO insulting of my intelligence and so blatantly dishonest! Not only did he completely alter my appearance, but the new "me" was 10-15 years older looking, more masculine looking, and just plain uglier. I had been told ahead of time that he puts meticulous care into the planning of surgeries so execution can be flawless. What a joke. I could not trust him to do any repairs on me - not his morals nor his skill! I found him to be a dishonest, immoral, greedy, reckless surgeon, and I hope he has improved in surgical and human skills in the 2.5 years since my surgery. Beware!!!!!

I am very happy with Dr. Movahed for pre-op, surgery, and follow-up care. You can tell he is a perfectionist, both by interacting with him and by the excellence that his staff demonstrates. The whole picture reinforces that this doctor has exceptionally high standards. And, let's be very honest, when going through this kind of surgery, YOU WANT THAT PERFECTION! The planning process incorporates some impressive technology to couple the science with his experience. While I did feel at the time like I didn't know *everything,* looking back I knew what I needed to focus on (diet, hygiene of the incisions, and rest). Its hard to relax with such a big surgery but other than those items, I say leave up to Dr. Movhed, his staff, and the amazing care team he partners with at Mercy. The post-op is tough, but normal, its just a lot of work to eat enough, keep your mouth clean, and manage the Rxs, but I did feel that I had the support I needed from post-op in Mercy and then from Movahed's office once I got home. I've healed very nicely and everything is back to normal. I have some of the expected numbness in my chin but no other negative effects. Some other reviews have mentioned that he is pricey...well I think in many cases you get what you pay for and the level of service, professionalism, and quality is something you don't want to skimp on when it comes to jaw surgery! I'm a very happy patient:)

Dr Reza movahed saved me from a world of neck, back, arm and jaw pain. He replaced my jaw joints and brought both jaws significantly forward (17mm). I woke up 8 hours later and all of the surging pain that ran down my body every day was gone.

I had very little pain from the surgery itself. Minimal numbness mostly on the chin. And I had much less swelling than expected which I couldn't believe!

Aesthetically my jaw line looks 100x better and even my nose improved since he moved the top jaw forward. Dr movahed is certainly the best surgeon in the country and I owe him my life.

Dr. Movahed is absolutely amazing. His concern for his patients knows no bounds. I had both jaw joints replaced in July. I was concerned because I am 72 years old and no one else wanted to touch me. He explained to me why I should not worry about the age factor and put my mind at ease. The surgery went great and I am now going to physical therapy. I cannot say enough about Dr. Movahed and his wonderful staff. I will forever be grateful to this gifted man.

I was referred to Dr. Movahed because no one else could help me with my desire for dental implants; I did not have enough bone in my jaw line for the implants. Dr. Movahed examined me and took the time to thoroughly explain the procedure. I proceeded with the procedure and although the surgery was extensive, the discomfort after the surgery only lasted a few days. His staff followed up with me to make sure my recovery was going well and also provided excellent care each time I came into the office for my follow-up care. I highly recommend Dr. Movahed to anyone seeking an oral surgeon. I really thought I was going to have to live out the rest of my life without jaw teeth but he has started me on the way to my dental implants.
