Thank you so much Dr Yoneda for giving me the first relief in years with my knees! He is so skilled at giving the Durolane injections that I barely feel it and I could continue my running a few days later!

Finally, thanks to Dr. Yoneda I can move my shoulder. I was in constant pain, with a frozen shoulder for 8 months. One visit, he solved my problem.

Out of many doctors I've had to see, hands down for Dr. Yoneda. Very professional, knowledgeable and understanding of complex situations that only experience can give you. It turns out that my landlords mom also got a hip replacement from him 20 years ago. Boy was my landlord glad to hear that he was my doctor. Then I go to rehab and other clinics and they also admit he's one of the best and most respected in his field. Peace of mind is the result when so many people share the same opinion.

ACL replacement failure- seek other options!!

I had Dr Yoneda perform an ACL replacement in 2007 after tearing it playing basketball.

After the surgery, my knee never felt right even after undergoing rigorous rehab guided by collegiate basketball team coaches, pyshicians, and trainers.

Now, years later my knee is still giving me issues so I went to a knee specialist to get it checked out.

After taking one look at my knee, the specialist said "Dr. Yoneda, right?"

I said "yes, how can you tell?"

As it turns out, he could tell by noticing the large scar above my knee on lateral side.

Apparently Dr. Yoneda is the only surgeon in Victoria that was still using this particular technique of surgery, SINCE IT HAS BEEN WIDELY PROVEN TO BE INNEFECTIVE AND HAVE A VERY HIGH FAILURE RATE. I was told that all other surgeons in the city stopped using this technique in the mid 1990's, yet for some reason, over a decade later, Dr. Yoneda did not adapt with the rest of the medical community.

As a result, I received an outdated technique, the replacement failed, and now I will need to have another surgery, just to continue with a normal quality of life.

I was not given any information about the technique, other options, or the very high failure rate to be expected.

After the surgery was done (not before), he advised that I'd need to wear a brace for all activities because it could "pop again at any time".

Given the fact that I told him that I was a competitive athlete, and looking to return to competition, I feel Dr. Yoneda should have at least warned me about the high failure rate ahead of time, or done the right thing and referred me to someone else who was using the current, improved techniques with higher success rates.

IF YOU NEED ACL REPLACEMENT SURGERY, SEEK OTHER OPTIONS!!

Before I met Dr. Yoneda, I was seeing another orthopaedic surgeon who diagnosed the debilatating pain in my knee as due to tiny miniscus tears. For a year I suffered with seizure-like episodes of stabbing pains in my leg and was hospitalized twice. At the end of my wits, I finally asked my GP if he could assign me to another specialist. He sent me to Dr. Yoneda. Within less than 5 minutes he diagnosed the pain was not my knee at all but a nerve reaction stemming from pressure in the L4 and L5 discs in my lower back. A few weeks after receiving nerve block injections he ordered for my lower back, I was back to normal and felt great. Years later he administered cortizone shots for a frozen shoulder and told me I needed "a lube job." One time he gave me a prescription for a bout of lower back pain and said, "Go home and tell your wife you cannot do any vacuuming the rest of your life." His humor always lifted my stress. I have a great deal of respect for highly educated and skilled professionals who don't feel a need to dazzle you with medical jargon to build their own esteem, but put medical terminology into layman terms we can understand. Dr. Yoneda does just that as well as bringing honor to a profession that sometimes loses touch with a patient's need to understand personal health issues. And because he is an honorable man with a high degree of respect for his patients, I find the criticism aimed at him for a harmless comment he made to be inconsiderate and way out of proportion to his supposed error. Must we continue to build a society where people make a career out of taking offense? Dr. Yoneda deserves to be honored for the thousands of patients he has helped - not disgraced by a light hearted comment that someone twisted into an offence.
