Dr Yu saved my life. He is the first doctor who listened to my story and gave me his honest, candid feedback about my options. He acted as my advocate on the day of my surgery and, despite the extensive complications and dangers of my case, took my wish to be pain free to heart. Most importantly, he got to know me and truly put me at ease with his confidence. And, I would be a fool not to mention that his staff is extremely friendly. Thank you Dr Yu

I am very pleased with my experience with Dr. Yu. I had very symptomatic fiborids and was looking for something other than hysterectomy. Dr. Yu's expertise, patience and thoroughness in his work made a big difference in my final decision to go ahead with my surgery. The whole experience from consultation to surgery and recovery was great. I am grateful to Dr.Yu and his staff for helping me go through this experience.
Thank you Dr. Yu and staff. I have my life back and I have you to thank for it.

I am very happy to say Dr. Steve Pyong Yu helped me get my life back, I had to undergo a Hysterectomy. I had several exams that showed I had lots of fibroid/tumors plus Adenomyosis I looked as if I was 6 months pregnant and I was having all pregnancy symptoms. The whole ordeal took about one month from going back and forth to doctor’s different testing and exams, Dr. Yu made me feel comfortable and showed me he really cared plus walked me through every step. Once I was ready for my procedure Dr. Yu was able to proceed with my surgery pretty quickly since he had a cancelation and was able to perform the surgery before planned, before during and after my surgery I felt wonderful and full of care with the entire team of all specialties treating me and prepping me for the surgery the Cardiologists assured me I was in great hands. And once this was all over I stayed overnight I had the entire floor all to myself with 3 lovely nurses who cared for me like a baby, they were truly angels watching over me. Once my laboratory results came in it turned out my fibroid tumors were not there, I only had Adenomyosis. I was very relieved after Dr. Yu told me that there was nothing scary and to go get my life back, the surgery took under one hour and I was never even cut. Plus the pain did not last more than a week, I did not need to take pain meds very long. I was able to return to work and was fully recovered after 4 weeks, thank you very much for the best care. My wife and I had concerns about surgery (including anastheasia, healing, scarring, etc.) but Dr. Yu was informed and communicative about our clinical concerns, and issues we hadn't even heard about yet. His surgical skill is top notch judging by the results we got post-op. My wife says Dr. Yu is the best doctor she's ever had!

Dr. Yu is absolutely awesome. My friend recommended Dr. Yu because she had an amazing experience with him when she needed surgery. I had been suffering from fibroids for years and to make a very long story short, Dr. Yu removed them through a few tiny incisions. He treated me with a lot of respect and always made me feel comfortable. He has a very reassuring and calming way about him.

My experience with Dr. Yu was wonderful. I have been suffering from fibroids for years and I have seen numerous other doctors. They all told me that I needed to have a hysterectomy because of the size of my fibroids, despite the fact that I wanted to have 1 more child. They all told me that it would be impossible. I was referred to Dr. Yu by a close friend who recently had a laparoscopic myomectomy from him. When I met Dr. Yu he told me that I didn't need to have a hysterectomy. We proceeded with a laparoscopic myomectomy. The surgery went extremely well and now I feel great. Dr. Yu is warm and comforting. He made me feel at ease and gave me great confidence that I'm in great hands. I owe so much to Dr. Yu. I recommend him to all my family and friends.

I have been experiencing excruciating pain for months. Misdiagnosed twice by to other doctors. After being referred to Dr. Yu by my primary Dr.
From the first meeting. He listened to my issues addressed them immediately.. While waiting for scheduled for MRI appt and review appt And MRI review appt. over the couple if weeks the pain still did not subside with any medication that I had including the last one I received from the Dr. On the way to emergency room I called Dr. Yu to let him know how I was feeling. He acted immediately again. I was able to see him and receive prescription for a much stronger medication. Long story short he booked my surgery for the earliest possible. Within a couple of days, I am 6 weeks post and I feel great. I felt great even 3-4 weeks. Also, Dr Yu addressed a second issue in the same area during my surgery which I greatly His taking the extra step. His confidence was a little bit scary for me in the beginning.( I feared overly confidence) However, through the out the ordeal I became so much more comfortable with him. He knows what he doing !!!!

Dr. Steve Yu is probably the most arrogant and insensitive doctor I have ever come across. My appointment with him went as follows:

After being weighed and having my blood pressure taken, I met with him in his office. I explained that I was having occasional pain in my left pelvic area during exercise or during times that I sat for long hours (e.g. a long drive). I further explained that I had brought this up to my primary physician (you) and that you referred me for an ultrasound - the results of which indicated that I had pelvic varicosities. He told me that pelvic varicosities are considered controversial in terms of their existence. He then did an exam after which we met in his office one last time. During this meeting he reiterated that pelvic varicosities are controversial. I was dumbfounded. Despite my being symptomatic and having an ultra sound during which the pelvic varicosities were found this doctor was telling me the varicosities were not the source of my pain. Further, he told me that if I was feeling pain, and I quote, "I can give you something for that." Really? Pain medication?

He went on to say another option would be physical therapy. To this I questioned him as to just what he would be prescribing physical therapy for. He replied "muscle pain." Wow! What muscle exactly did he think needed physical therapy?

Needless to say, my appointment with him was not only disappointing, but also insulting. It was as if I was in the office of a male doctor from an era long gone - one in which male doctors try to tell you what is wrong (or not wrong) despite very real symptoms and test results. The experience was so poor I am considering leaving the UCLA health care system.

Dr. Yu is amazing. I've never felt so comfortable, confident, and cared for. I was referred to him and was not disappointed. From the initial meeting he was kind and listened to me. After the news about my results I teared up and he ran to get me tissues - it was so sweet! I loved how detailed he was with his explanations and visual presentations to really help me understand what was happening. I had an abnormal pap which turned into something more serious as he identified during my LEEP procedure. I was thankful that he noticed that there was something not caught by previous procedures and physicians.

He supplied me all the information to make the best judgement for myself and I decided to have a hysterectomy to ensure that I would not have future complications. He was supportive and made me feel confident in my decision.

He was a true professional, but not cold like other doctors I’ve had experience with. He was always welcoming and in great spirits. There was a point I was concerned about a portion of my recovery and he called me right away and told me to text him!!! I was like - that’s so awesome!!!

I did have the opportunity to stay overnight at UCLA and it was great! During my stay I felt like I was in a hotel and not a hospital - even the food was tasty!!! Dr. Yu’s staff was impeccable - I felt like I was family and it was great to get their visits here and there. When I called for any of them they were always prompt and extremely nice.

I can’t say enough about my experience and even through my recovery I look forward to my visits.

Thank you for everything - I am truly grateful!!!

Samantha

I was referred to Dr. Steve Yu after my first prenatal appointment. During that appointment I was informed my baby didn't have a heartbeat and that I had fibroids. The next day I saw Dr. Yu and he explained everything to me during the exam and after about my options. This was a very difficult time for me and was my first pregnancy. He was kind, gentle and knowledgeable. I decided to have a D&C that same week, it was not an easy experience at all. But Dr. Yu was so helpful and comforting to me. He is very proactive and doesn't waste time, I was scheduled for my MRI later that month for the fibroids. After the MRI, I meet up with Dr. Yu again and discussed my options. His opinion was a laparoscopic myomectomy. I left feeling very confident with my decision, because I knew I was in good hands. Nancy his surgery coordinator was wonderful. His nursing staff is great also. My surgery was a success I am fibroid free ( I had a total of 7 removed). I would recommend Dr. Yu has a doctor and especially if you need surgery. He is an excellent surgeon.
