Dr. Soules is a highly knowledgeable and sensitive physician. Although my mother speaks very limited English, Dr. Soules communicated with her effectively and with compassion. The surgery she performed greatly alleviated my mother's incontinence and improved the auality of her life tremendously. My family is very grateful to Dr. Soules.

Biography

Karen Soules, MD was born and raised in Michigan. She attended the University of Michigan for her undergraduate studies and medical school. Dr. Soules then moved to Hawaii to complete her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. Following residency she moved on to a fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at Louisiana State University in New Orleans. After completing fellowship Dr. Soules worked for 2 years in florida as a private practitioner. She has recently moved back to Hawaii to work with the University Women’s Health Specialists.. Her love for urogynecology arises from the ability of the subspecialty to enhance women’s lives by improving their day-to-day experience in the world. She feels she can be a valuable resource to her patients providing skilled and specialized care that can ultimately improve their quality of life. Dr. Soules likes to have fun and her approach to patient care is personal and very relaxed. She can talk with you about anything and will laugh with you about everything. She has found laughter is the key to bringing a group together and her ability to make her patients comfortable through humor is one of her strengths. Her experience of living so many places has given her exposure to patients from many different backgrounds. She has gleaned unique perspectives from each of the communities she has spent time in. During her senior year of fellowship, she traveled with a group to Kigali, Rwanda to treat women suffering from the devastating effects of obstetrical fistulas. It was a life-changing experience for her and she knows she will carry those women’s stories with her always. Ready for her next adventure: she is excited about the opportunity to be back in the Aloha State and to use her experiences to care for the women of Hawaii.
