Biography

Dr. Robert Lemon was born in a suburb of Los Angeles, California. In his senior year of high school he had an opportunity to attend UCLA part time and, after graduation, he transferred to the University of California, Irvine. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at UC Irvine and went on to medical school at the same institution. In his third year of medical school his grandmother, who had survived breast cancer twenty years before, developed a bleeding disorder. She was subsequently diagnosed with ovarian cancer and died at his parents’ home a few months later. Watching his mother care for her brought the treatment of cancer and blood diseases to a personal level and set him on a path towards hematology and medical oncology. After graduation, he went on to internship and residency at Loma Linda University Hospital in Redlands California. He stayed with Loma Linda serving one year as a chief resident at Riverside County Hospital after which he began his fellowship in hematology and oncology at the Scripps Clinic in La Jolla. After his fellowship, he practiced in Rancho Mirage, California for sixteen years where he participated in numerous clinical trials under the guidance of his mentor, Dr. Sebastian George. His time with Dr. George helped to develop his drive to push the boundaries of oncology and the determination to bring innovative research to the local community. After Dr. George’s untimely passing he practiced in southern Utah for a few years before returning to California. With five children still in the home, he does not have much free time but when he does, he and his wife, Cindy, enjoy serving in the LDS Church and traveling to visit their two young grandchildren.
