I was told that the pain and numbness radiating down my arm would resolve immediately after the surgery, that I'd be back to running one month after the surgery, and that the risk to my vocal cords was "so insignificant that I shouldn't be worried about it." None of that was true. Over a year later, I still have pain and numbness radiating down my arm, running is absolutely out of the question, and one of my vocal cords was paralyzed when Dr. Ott severed the laryngeal nerve during the surgery, reducing my voice to a hoarse whisper. During the 30 second post op visit, he barely crossed the threshold of the room, quickly looked at the incision, claimed it healing, and stepped out. He did not bother to ask if I had questions or concerns. When it became apparent that the surgery failed to resolve my symptoms and that my voice was not recovering, he offered no insights or recommendations for follow up care. His lack of concern for my outcome adding insult to the injury that I incurred under his care. I am more damaged after the surgery than I was before the surgery. As a young teacher, the loss of my voice is a devastating life long consequence from which I will never recover.

Laminectomy in July. Couldn't have asked for better care. Great result. As for any negative reviews, remember these posts ARE NOT verified, as any complaints would be if made to the BBB or Medical Board. My experience with Dr. Ott would put him amongst the best of the bests-- which is exactly how his colleagues would rate him. You're in very good hands with Dr. Ott.

I scheduled a consultation with Dr. Ott reluctantly after reading the reviews. When I received an order For a neuro consult, it was originally with another neurosurgeon in his group. They were unable to get me in befor the order expired; however I was able to get in with Dr Ott. I was also pretty reluctant about surgery prior to meeting with Dr ott. However it was his recommendation that I get a foraminotomy. He explained very clearly why that was his recommendation and went over my MRI images and did a physical assessment/examination. Any question I had he was able to answer and was honest with me on the issues he could not fix via the foraminotomy or other surgical means. I did not feel I was treated as "number" or billable hours, nor did I feel belittled. He cracked a couple jokes, and one that may be perceived as slightly misogynistic by people with lower thresholds for offense. Nonetheless, I liked him just fine and feel quite confident in his ability to opperate on me

Also worth mentioning about, is his assistant/front office employee Karen. She was very personable and I quite liked her. She got me in quickly for an appointment, helped me through the paperwork and seemed to have a genuinely compassionate personality.

The only thing I did not enjoy about the office was the parking. But I suppose that is to be expected for offices in hospitals. I just wasn't expecting it prior to my appointment. So I was a bit late. Next time I will plan on arriving 15-20 min earlier, to allow time to park and get to the office.

I was nervous about taking my grandpa to Dr. Ott because of certain reviews, but I was proven wrong. He is an exceptional and competent neurosurgeon. He had a confident answer for every question and communicated the best path for my grandpa to take. Dr. Ott has a direct, no nonsense approach and isn't that what you want in a doctor? Even though other reviews said he was uptight, I think I saw him smirk once or twice. I absolutely adore Dr. Ott.

No bedside manner, acts like nursing staff do not matter. No "care" given about patients.

Dr. Ott is direct, friendly, and very knowledgeable. His assistant Karen was terrific; she was very efficient and got me into see him quickly when I needed to see a neurosurgeon. I have no hesitancy and recommending it.

Every comment here is negative, and my experience was no different. This man truly does not care for his patients. I suffered repeated complications with no end in sight until I finally saw another neurosurgeon. What a nightmare.

Horrible surgeon, horrible person. Not sure how someone like this can continue practicing neurosurgery. Stay far away!!!

It is widely known in the medical field Dr. Ott has a very bad reputation for poor pre-surgery and post-surgery. He took way too long to drill a small hole in the skull of my sister to relieve pressure and allow drainage of the blood from the brain after surgery. He also put back the skull in after the surgery, knowing there will be massive pressure coming a couple days. He never put a ventriculoperitoneal-shunt in with the surgery to help removal of excess fluid and pressure. The damage and death of her brain cells brought her die very young. Dr. Ott is NOT a good doctor nor a good person. He needs to retire now…

The 30 minute wait beyond our scheduled appointment time was'nt that bad, but then things became completely unprofessional. Dr. Ott had not even looked at my chart, made assumptions about my condition (such as thinking I had been experiencing it for 3 months but I've been suffering from it for over 6 years). He ignored the things I had to say and was dismissive throughout the appointment. His patronizing tone was demeaning and shocking.
