Dr. Alvarellos is very thorough and knowledgeable. When I saw him with my daughter for the first appointment he asked me a lot of questions about my child to get an understanding of what the challenges were. He asked me a lot of questions about my child's development, how she interacts with other kids, if she has been able to learn in school...just a lot of very detailed information that no one really asked me before him and I had seen therapists and two other psychiatrists who insisted on medicating my daughter. As is turned out, my daughter ended up having a learning disability that Dr. Alvarellos told me during the first appointment he suspected and the depression my daughter was having was most likely due to her problems learning in school which was affecting her mood and self esteem. He did not jump to medicate my daughter like the other doctors did and recommended that she have an evaluation for a IEP, which later confirmed with testing that my daughter indeed had a learning disability. We are now working with the school to get her more resources and just getting help she needs has helped her mood immensely. Dr. Alvarellos had recommend therapy and I can say my daughter is definitely much better now.

Dr Alvarellos is the best psychiatrist I have seen. He takes the time to understand you and come up with what the best approach will be.

Dr. "A" is a great communicator and always listens before coming up with a diagnosis. He is not going to just talk to you for five minutes and give you a prescription and kick you out of the office like a lot of other psychiatrists.
