I recently had a ACDF done in Amarillo TX with Dr. Hiser. Dr. Hiser went above and beyond to answer any question or concerns before surgery and after surgery. He was the only Dr in West Texas that would help me because my injury was from a motor vehicle accident. The heathgrade.com review made me question his ability’s but he met my expectations and more! If you are having any spinal issue Dr. Hiser if your man!

I had L4/L5/S1 spinal fusion surgery in Feb 2016 and 20 months later I still deal with low level pain in the hardware/grafts area. At the six month (final) checkup, I asked Dr. Hiser if the pain was still there at 12 months post surgery, what could be done. He said if I still had pain there he couldn't do anything about it. He seemed professional but one could wonder what his successful fusion surgery rate is.

Last year I met Dr Hiser after being referred to him from my neurologist. I was diagnosed with a Chiari Malformation in my brain along with an aneurysm behind my right eye. His bedside manner is so calm, reassuring, & patient. He took the time to address ALL my boyfriend & my concerns & questions. He doesn't rush through anything. He spent time with us looking at my MRI & MRA & explained with great knowledge, but also broke it down for us to understand, what we were looking at inside my brain. He informed me I needed surgery but needed to quit smoking. Very honest. He explained the surgery to us but was very concerned for me as I cried. I trust Dr Hiser with my life, I have no worries there. I haven't gotten the surgery done yet though because I cannot afford my copay. Someday when it happens, I know I'll be in careful, loving, knowledgeable hands. & knowing that lessens the fear of brain surgery a great deal.

My husband fell and hit his head. Months later, he had headaches and the CT showed bilateral subdural hematomas. We met this doc in the ER. He explained everything, and recommended surgery. My husband had bilateral craniotomy surgery with clot evacuation. He did have some complications related to underlying health conditions, therefore Dr Hiser had to perform another craniotomy a week later with further clot evacuation. Now two months later, my husband is doing great. The hematomas are all resolved. I appreciate the consults Dr Hiser made for my husband including a seizure specialist, wound specialist, and rehab specialist. I can now say my husband is almost back to his preoperative self! Dr Hiser has always been nothing but caring, polite, and respectful to both of us. Brain surgery is really scary!! My husband didn't really know what was going on when he was in the ICU, but he does like this surgeon. We had some setbacks, but I like Dr Hiser too, esp now that my husband has healed and is doing so well.

I really liked him showing me the photos of my spine and explaining what was going on. I will let him do any surgery that is needed later on.

Dr. Hiser is a straight shooter. That may be off-putting to some but I appreciated it. He reviewed all of my images with me and answered all of my questions. I am a smoker and am overweight. He told me I would need to lose weight and stop smoking before he would consider doing surgery. He explained the elevated risks of complications after surgery if I continued down the unhealthy path I was on. I appreciated that honesty. You may not always like what you hear but that doesn't mean the person giving you that information is bad. I did go on to lose the weight he suggested and stopped smoking. I had surgery and it was very successful. My pain has significantly decreased, I am walking better and my quality life has improved. I would recommend Dr. Hiser to anyone who appreciates an honest, skilled surgeon

I am getting ready for my second surgery with Dr. Hiser. Last year, I had neck surgery and quite serious at that. Dr. Hiser was very thorough in explaining my situation and the seriousness of it to me. He explained exactly what he would do regarding the procedure and what to expect with recovery. I had absolutely no complications and a great recovery. I am preparing for back surgery in a couple of weeks and I've received the same type of care: thoroughness on the explanation of the condition, what the procedure will entail, and the expected recovery time. I have full confidence in Dr. Hiser and am not worried in the least about my upcoming back surgery.

I must confess that after reading the negative posts about Dr. Hiser on this site I had less than a positive attitude about him and even researched alternatives. However, as I had not met him I decided I should at least do that. My first meeting impressed me. He was thorough in his explanations, openly discussed all options including surgery. He carefully showed me the issues I had in the L4/L5 area of my spine. Right up until the day of surgery he was clearly open to alternatives, it was my choice. Surgery went great. The excruciating pain I had been enduring for over 18 months was gone. I could walk again with no pain!! Absolutely no issues post surgery, recovery was rapid and his attention from Dr. Hiser and his staff post op was outstanding. I would highly recommend this skilled surgeon.

I saw Dr. Hiser for the first time in July of 2013. I was a little hesitant at first because he is a young doctor but I had heard good things. I am so glad I saw him! He was kind, attentive and really took the time to explain everything to my husband and I. Hedidn't recommend surgery at that time but I did come back a few months later when I fell and injured my back. Again he was very atentive and had great bedside manner.

Dr. Hiser did a L5S1 spinal fusion Nov 2013. Dr. Hiser before surgery was polite and seemed to know what he was doing but when I woke up unable to walk & in severe pain his demenor changed. He refused to change pain medications being given, he refused to listen to my concerns, telling me there was nothing wrong with me. 7 days laters I ended up back in the hospital, Dr. Hiser 6 hrs later told me that nothing was wrong with me (without running any test) and discharged me. 4 hours when my left leg was now blueish in color I went to another hospital only to be told that my bone grafts had been missplaced that pinched off a major artery to that leg and that I had a massive blood clot the length of my left leg that required surgery to remove, I almost lost my left leg!! several days later I ended up with a blood clot in my right lung and almost died. I have had 9 surgeries now to fix what he screwed up. needless to say I fired him as my neurosurgeon and a lawsuit is pending!!!
