Biography
Dr. Rosalia Pereyra was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and immigrated with her family to the U.S. with an asylum visa in 1974. She completed high school in the U.S. and later received a scholarship to the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru, a prestigious Jesuit University in Lima, Peru, completing her undergraduate degree in psychology in 1985. Upon her return to the U.S., she worked in various capacities in the medical field while earning an MBA degree, awarded in 1993. Dr. Pereyra resumed her studies in psychology at the Arizona School of Professional Psychology (Argosy University) in Phoenix, Arizona, earning a master’s degree in counselling and later, a doctoral degree in clinical psychology in 2003. Dr. Pereyra worked at the Arizona Burn and Trauma Center as the chief psychologist at the Burn Center and also at its outpatient clinic, where she gained vast experience working with individuals and families undergoing severe emotional stress. Dr. Pereyra worked at the International Rescue Committee (IRC), a non-profit agency that helps victims of racial, religious, ethnic and political persecution, and people uprooted by war and violence. She provided quality comprehensive mental health services committed to promoting and improving the mental health of refugees and displaced populations throughout all phases of the disaster. Dr. Pereyra’s experience at IRC, coupled with her own experience as a refugee, motivated her to begin working with individuals who require psychological evaluations for immigration purposes and providing therapy to families who are separated and suffered the impact of having a family member deported. Dr. Pereyra has seven years of experience working at the Social Security Administration adjudicating cases related to mental disabilities.
