I had a terrible experience with this dental office. I could not get a cost projection from them. I went in to get a broken tooth fixed. Instead, Dr. Hulbert advised that I have all remaining top teeth removed and a denture made. This was a shock but I decided to follow his recommendation. Dr. Hulbert told me I would get a cost estimate over the holidayslike I have gotten in all my other dental offices. Other dentists always giv e e a print out that includes the procedure, their cost. the costs negotiated with the insurance, the costs the insurance company will pay, and the remaining cost the patient is required to pay. I believe that this is standard operating procedure for all dentists so that a patient knows prior to beginning treatment how much the treatment will cost. I did not receive such a cost estimate and Dr. Hulbert proceeded with treatment. His office told me verbally that they charge a lab fee of approximately $1000 in addition to the cost of the denture but did not give me a print out that showed whether my insurance company would pay for this. I called my insurance company and they told me that such a fee is not covered in the negotiated cost of the denture. I was therefore afraid that I would be charged $1000 additional for a fee which is not even recognized as legitimate by my insurance. I was despaerate to know what they would. charge me. The office had already taken an impression of my teeth to begin the denture production. According to me, this represented unprofessional standards. So I kept calling to get the prinout that I have always received from other dentists. I was told that I would be called back. I never got a call back. The woman in the office said that often she did not answer my calls because my number was similar to her mother in law's number and her mother in law was not supposed to call the office. When I did not receive a call back, I called again and left a messgae of desperation stating that I did not understand why they were not providing cost information and that this seemed unprofessional. I received a call back after I left the message and the woman berrated my character in a very abusive way. She said they did not want me as a client and that they were a private company and had the right to serve whomever they wanted. They sent me a diusmissal letter with not reasons except for "administrative reasons," a reason I did not find on th American Dental Association website where it discusses dismissals. The trouble is that I used all my dental insurance coverage to go to them and now am left with no dental coverage to go to another dentist. I will have to pay out of pocket. I have been dismissed because they did not do what all professional dental offices do, namely provide a cost estimate prior to initiating service. This has been the worst experience I have ever had with any dentist and I cannot understand how they could pubnish me for their failure to perform according to professional dental standards.
