Thank GOD for doctors like Dr Mathis. My son has GI, endocrine and immunology issues, and let me just say I credit this man with not only saving my sons life, but giving me peace of mind that my son was loved, cared for and that he gave me his word he would not give up on my child ~ a promise he has steadfastly kept. When my child first went into the hospital 2 years ago, he did every test imaginable to ensure a correct diagnoses...and in each subsequent illness and hospitalization, he has ensured I had a way to get ahold of him at all times, AND has worked tirelessly to get him back to good health. He's taken a boy who was loosing weight, not growing, constant auto immune problems and GI issues over the past 2 years - and helped him become the soccer/sports playing, happy, fun loving, skateboarding, lovable kid I have back again. Even if I was a Millionaire/Billionaire, I would keep him caring for my child, because I trust his expertise, he's a wonderful & kindhearted yet professional doctor...and I am forever indebted to him for his advocacy, knowledge/expertise and digging probably saved my childs' life!

while I had initially a great deal of respect for this doctor-- he helped my daughter by correctly diagnosing her and helping her to get the surgery she needed to correct her hiatal hernia and chronic reflux, but now she is having complications and possibly a slipped fundoplication Today he refused to see my daughter because of issues with authorization from the ins. co. He actually walked out of the office w/o saying a word to us or giving me an opportunity to even pay for the appt. in cash, which I would have just to have her seen! My 6yr old daugher left in tears wondering why he wouldn't see her and help make her terrible stomach pain go away. How do you explain this to a child that her doctor is more concerned with getting paid than with helping her get better and making her pain go away! I don't care how experienced, in-demand or busy a doctor is, this kind of behavior is appalling, unethical and unforgivable. I was even refused her records and told to wait 5-7 bus days.

I am 14, and I was dying in the hospital, misdiagnosed with an eating disorder. Dr. Mathis was the first doctor to really, honestly, listen to me. And he is the reason why I am now happily a healthy weight and enjoying life. He was the only, of a long series of doctors, to diagnose my acid reflux, hiatel hernia, and ulcers.
