Dr. Gonzalez is a native of San Antonio, and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. After obtaining his undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin and Medical Doctor Degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center Medical School at San Antonio in 1980 he promptly entered the United States Army. His army career spanned over 21 years of dedicated service. He received advanced surgical training at Brooke Army Medical Center, completing an internship in General Surgery, and then completing his Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Gonzalez advanced further and completed a two-year fellowship that included Basic Science Research and Sports Medicine Surgery at the distinguished United States Military Academy at West Point. His first assignment was as a flight surgeon in Korea. Here he flew helicopters as a Captain and was chosen to serve as the officer in charge of the U.S. Army’s largest health clinic in that country. He was later placed as Chief of Orthopaedics at Fort Hood, Texas, Chief of Orthopaedics of a 400 bed Evacuation Hospital in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm, and his final position as Chief of Orthopaedics and Residency Program Director at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. At the end of his illustrious military career he returned home to San Antonio and became a Partner of The San Antonio Orthopaedic Group. He retired from this practice after 14 years. During this time, he continued to develop his expertise in his field. Today Dr. Gonzalez is currently in practice at a new clinic he founded, Texas Oaks Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Institute. He sub-specializes in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, with concentration on minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee. His extensive training and proven track record in orthopaedics both as a Military Orthopaedic Surgeon and as a Civilian Orthopaedic Surgeon provides assurance of the high level of superb quality care his patients receive.
