With the new year came new insurance restrictions & we needed to find a new primary Dr. We were out of town and called to set an appointment as soon as we returned home. On January 5, 2023 we set up the soonest appointment for Dr Saccente . That appointment was set for the end of April.
Unfortunately my husband ended up hospitalized in March. The hospital attempted to get the dr to see him sooner since he had a tear in his colon & was admitted for a week. They said they could not see him sooner. Then they actually Called & pushed his appointment out even further! When he finally got into this Dr it was a joke.
First off… you can’t enter the office without a surgical mask. You must wear a mask the entire time you’re in this office. Then, the office staff have to be the most incompetent staff ever. The dr gave them several prescriptions to send to the pharmacy. The only thing was, they needed authorization. These people never once called the insurance for authorization. We went back & forth trying to get the prescriptions but without them getting authorization it was repeatedly denied.
Even after repeated calls to the office to fix this, they could never figure out how to do their job.
In August my husband had his blood drawn for his follow up appointment. The Dr stated he was borderline on his hemoglobin levels. He also never mentioned his white blood cells being low & highlighted in red on his results. He said he would keep an eye on it. He then prescribed a basic iron supplement… the one he had problems with previously & told this dr of the issues. So, we purchased a blood builder out of pocket to keep his levels up.
They still failed to get authorization for the prescriptions that he desperately needed. In the meantime we met with an internal medicine specialist that we met in the hospital, in March. This Dr did scopes. At the follow up we explained how we were unable to get the necessary prescriptions due to the dr office not getting authorization first. The Internal medicine dr sent In prescriptions that were authorized to help. They did help however the damage was already done.
On Monday 11/27 he went to Quest for a routine blood draw. he had an appointment with Dr Saccente for Wednesday to follow up. They canceled him again. They said blood results would never be back by Wednesday. Well they were in the portal that evening.
On Tuesday morning we saw his hemoglobin was at 5.7. He immediately called the dr office (9am) he told the “nurse” his hemoglobin was very low. She stated she already knows & had his results in front of her but she doesn’t know what it means. He called 3 times throughout the day & was told each time the dr will call him back. The dr still has never called him. He did have his nurse call at 5pm to tell him he sent his paperwork & an order for a transfusion to Morton plant. We do not use this hospital & that is in his file. Our insurance does not even allow us to use that hospital but, They failed to check, they also failed to send the order over as they said.
I called Morton plant to find out what we needed to do. They said they did not have any orders from that Dr or for my husbands name. I hung up & called the internal medicine Dr we trusted. He was not on call but still managed to call us within the hour. I’m not sure why dr Saccente could not call in 8 hours time but… obviously they are not a reliable practice.
On Wednesday 11/29 we drove to north pinellas hospital where my husband was given 2 units of blood. It’s a miracle he did not have a stroke or heart attack as low as his blood levels were. All it took was a competent dr to follow up & do the right thing. Had the Dr office done their job in April, May or anytime prior to this, we would not of had this emergency or needed this transfusion. The complete neglect & disregard for my husbands care at this office is ridiculous! They could have cost him his life yet they could not even get authorization for a prescription or follow up on low hemoglobin levels. I guess they want everyone to wear masks so they don’t have to see the faces of those they screw over.
This office & practice need to be investigated for neglect & failure to provide proper medical care. After speaking to the hospital & doctors saving his life, it’s even more clear how utterly incompetent this office is! Please, if you really need medical care… do not go here. Go elsewhere… this office will waste your time & money while you slowly die from their incompetence.
