I received a call from my Dr. advising that I needed to go to the Emergency Room Immediately because my x-rays indicated that I had appendicitis. Dr. Pickens was the surgeon on duty at NFRMC and scheduled me for surgery the next morning. He removed my appendix and my gall bladder. I consider him to be knowledgeable, inquisitive about past medical history, and sensitive to my thoughts and feelings as to what was going on with me and why I was in the ER. His surgical team was professional, timely and caring. I am three weeks post surgery and feel totally healed and have minimal scars. Very impressed.

Wonderful personality and skillful surgeon. He really cares, and he was a cheerleader after the surgery.

Arrogant "jerk", left me with hernia after gallbladder surgery. I knew something was wrong right away, but he was to self-centered to listen. A simple hands-on exam would have confirmed the problem but he wouldn't see me and I paid the price (in pain and additional surgery). Don't risk your health on this little ego-maniac!

Helpful doesn't begin to describe Dr. Pickens! He is informative and reassuring, besides being a brilliant surgeon. I hope I never have to use another surgeon, except him!

Dr. Pickens did my partial thyroidectomy on 8/8/08. He was a wonderful surgeon...very knowledgeable, empathetic, and gracious. Not to mention, he has a good sense of humor! He was concerned about my scar and made the incision neat, clean, and as small as possible. I am now almost 2 weeks post surgery and all is well. My scar looks great (thanks to Mederma) and will not even be noticeable in a few months. I think what impressed me most about Dr. Pickens was that he was willing to take whatever course of action I wanted. Surgery was an option for me, not a necessity. Dr. Pickens was open to my suggestions and completely supported my decision to go ahead with the partial thyroidectomy. I am very pleased with all aspects of Dr. Pickens...his wisdom, skill, experience, and bedside manner. I recommend him without hesitation and will definitely use him in the future if I ever require surgery again.
