I've been a patient fo almost 20 years! He is awesome! Unfortunately, he is closing down his office on August 1, 2017. So now I've got to look for another rheum. Sigh...gonna be hard to replace him. Best wishes Dr. Pickrell! Love ya and gonna miss ya so much! Tee

I travel 8 hours in a day to see him. His nurse always calls me when I'm on the road to tell me he left the office for the day. For having a progressive autoimmune disease it's upsetting to have been a patient for 6 months and never been helped or met the man. I own and operate my own business and must close for a day to travel. It seems that they have little regard for other people's busy lives.

I have been a patient of Dr. Paul Pickrell for almost 10 years. I have NEVER had a bad experience with him. He is not only attentive, helps you feel relaxed, is silly funny & loves to make jokes. On my first few visits after being diagnosed with LUPUS, I was an emotional wreck due to a lot of personal problems which increased flares due to my illness. He not only listened to me pour our my feelings and cry openly, he made notes of our conversation. When I returned for my next visit, he asked about my issues @ home. This made me realize he was a REAL person listening to me, not a regular Dr. that stares down at your file and barely listen to you regarding pain, much less have a conversation. If he was a Dr. of EVERYTHING, I would suggest him to the world. Every time I get home from my appointment, I have a smile on my face & call my mom, husband and friends to rave about how amazing he is. I am so blessed to have Dr. Pickrell as my RA doctor and am grateful to have my Primary Care Dr. refer me to him. BTW my primary care doctor was the worst doctor I have ever experienced. BTW ***The staff - in particular Loren & Dolores have always been extremely helpful, always return my call with all of my questions - with a smile & professionalism. These wonderful women have been with Dr. Pickrell since my first visit over 10 years age. This is a testament to Dr. Pickrell's wonderful attitude, work environment & personal professional care. He was also very helpful and understanding when I had NO insurance, and always helped prescribe medication(s) that were less costly. Lastly, when I applied for disability - which took over 3 years -I believe because of Dr. Pickrell's excellent paperwork, notes on my file, tests, etc, I was able to get disability. The Judge had told me my medical info was so detailed, this is what helped me win my case. Thank you Dr. Pickrell for making this patient forever happy even with all my RA/Lupus related disorders.

I've been with Dr. Pickrell almost 11 years. Until he moved out to the Bee Cave/Galleria area, his staff was wonderful. Then he hired "BrideZilla" to run the front office. She is horribly rude to everyone. I keep hoping to find out that she got fired but apparently she serves some greater good that no one but the doctor knows! I have considered looking for a new doctor as it's quite the drive out to see him now and then to have to be confronted with Bridezilla each time is starting to wear on my nerves. She is ruining his ratings! Hope he wakes up and smells the coffee before it's too late. Cheers!

I have been Dr. Pickrell's patient for over a decade. He is the single most compassionate, knowledgeable, reasonable doctor I have ever come across , and I've seen quite a few with my medical history. HE LISTENS TO HIS PATIENT. He talks with you about what he believes may be going on with you and does not jump to conclusions without evidence to back it up-which he gets through diagnostics as well as by talking to you-like a regular person. He explains things in normal terminology or clarifies the medical lingo. Best of all he talks with you about what approach you want to take in regards to your care. His office staff have never been anything but nice to me. I have recommended him to several other people and they all love him too. I trust him more than any other physician I've ever seen.

No idea where the negative reviews are coming from? I have always found Dr P and his staff to be amazing. Because people are often in severe pain when they come in, I wonder if this skews experience. Although, given that I struggle with insane gout pain that inflames my entire foot and ankle, I still found all of them helpful and friendly.

Dr. Pickrell takes the time to help you understand what's happening and why, which is why people wait so long. But sadly his office staff and nurse Dolores just makes it not worth it anymore; they are simply terrible. Why he keeps this staff is anyone's guess, all I know is that after 10 years I had to stop. Refills don't happen unless you chase them down and the girl at the front desk is simply the worst; she has to be a relation to get away with her rudeness. Like others, I've had to leave him because of his support staff. He's a pro, he should hire a few.

I agree completely about the comments regarding the front staff being arrogant. I met with this Doctor 3 times trying to figure out my diagnosis. The last 2 times, I waited 1 hr and he only spent 5 minutes with me and still unable to make a diagnosis. Just gave me a prescription "to try" even though I had no diagnosis and zero information on what I should expect with this medication. From what I have talked to some of his patients, his specialty is RA and not very up to date with the latest of other auto-immune diseases.

Dr. Pickrell is a life saver! He is well informed, warm and very caring about his patients. His nurse, Delores, is like that as well. BUT, his front office person is horrible tho and I intend to tell him the next visit. She is rude and snotty to everyone. I can't imagine why in the world he would hire such a person but he needs to know. If you can overlook the front gal, he is worth the drive. He offers fantastic care with a great sense of humor. Because he takes his time with you there can be a lengthy wait time but he is worth it.

Rarely have I felt compelled to rate a doctor and staff especially after the first visit. However, my experience last week was the best one I have had with a doctor and staff in many years. He spent more time with me in one visit than any of my docs have in 4-5 appointments. Several docs sent him info on me and it was immediately obvious he had taken the time to go over my records before our first appt. That was impressive and really pleased me as my history is lengthy and can be confusing. The entire staff was professional and empathetic, I can think of no area needing improvement. Awaiting the results of numerous tests, I will update this at a later date and be more specific.
