Michael Diaz was my Dr. for breast cancer treatment. The entire ordeal was a nightmare. He and his assistant Ashley, were nice on the first visit, but soon after their true colors show. Before my first round of chemo I asked what drugs he was giving me and why he chose them. He told me not to worry myself with that, it was my own special "cocktail". I insisted he tell me what the drugs were and he seemed annoyed and said he would have his nurse go over them with me. I had a surgically implanted port put in the day before chemo to make it easier. The first round of chemo the nurse tried at least 6 times to get the needle in the port and couldn't seem to do it, I was in tears bc of pain and finally my daughter asked for a different nurse to do it, the next nurse did it on the first try and told the other nurse she was trying to insert it from the bottom and that was her mistake. A day after chemo I was in bed in fetal position in so much pain I thought I was dying. I called his office and left messages for a nurse to call me. Hours went by and no one called, I finally called again and said I was going to the ER, they told me to come there instead. I did, they checked my toxicity levels and said I had been over dosed and would either need a blood transfusion or would have to flush my system. I chose to have my system flushed which meant sitting for hours with a saline drip. After my 2nd round of chemo I developed a huge blister/burn on the back of my hand...I asked the nurse what it was she said " oh that is just the chemo trying to find a way out" Isaid no I have a port in my chest, chemo didn't go in through my hand, she said it didn't matter it was just the chemo and to put some lotion on it. I asked, do you mean I am burning from the inside out and she laughed and said yes you can say that. I began researching 3 of the 8 drugs he was giving me for my chemo, on a Government website, and one of the drugs in bold letters stated that this drug was not to be used for breast cancer UNLESS the patient has already undergone chemo with poor results OR had positive lymph nodes, NEITHER was true for me. When I questioned him he got angry and told me to stay off the internet. Whenever I complained of horrible side effects ( and there were A LOT ) he told me in all his years of practice I was the first to complain of such issues. However talking with other patients of his they said he told them the very same thing when they complained. The last time I saw him, he was wanting me to start taking another drug and when I told him I wasn't comfortable with it he said it isn't up for conversation, followed with " I am the Dr. YOU are the patient, you do what you are told". I went home, called his office and had them transfer all my files to a different Oncologist.

Dr. Diaz was recommended by Dr. Miercourt (see other reviews on him before choosing). Initially, Dr. Diaz seemed nice, and he listened when the family spoke. He didn’t seem to rush the family through the appointments. Slowly, the attentiveness began to fade. He had a female assistant – who was kind and nice – but the family started to see less and less of the doctor and more of her. The patient’s condition worsened with each visit, yet they still didn’t see much of the doctor. Even though it was not stated plainly to the family, Dr. Diaz supposedly knew the cancer was incurable, yet he pushed a chemo pill when chemo had not worked previously at Moffitt AND when radiation HAD worked successfully. In fact, the family had returned to their radiation oncologist (Dr. Miercourt) for more radiation, but Dr. Diaz had argued with the other doctor about doing it, and instead of listening to the family’s wishes, Dr. Miercourt gave in to Dr. Diaz, leading the family to believe there was an inducement of some sort between them. On what ended up being the last appointment with Dr. Diaz, the assistant had to go get him, and he admitted the patient to the hospital right away. The patient was in the hospital for a few days, and Dr. Diaz only stopped in ONCE, and he made sure to do it when the family was not there. He also lied to the patient about contacting the family. Another oncologist from the same group came in because the family had been complaining about the doctor (and the hospital staff didn’t understand his absence, either), and he was more honest than the other had been. The family made quick work of getting the patient out of the hospital and back home where the patient could pass away in peace. Dr. Diaz didn’t call after the patient was released to check on the condition. Instead, some two weeks later after the patient had died and the family was pulling in to the funeral home, the receptionist called, wanting to schedule a ‘follow up’. Dr. Diaz has little concern for his patients, and he proved it with not seeing the patient on scheduled appointment times, not bothering to visit his own patient while in the hospital, not checking on them when they left and, consequently, having no idea that the patient had died and having the receptionist try to make another appointment. He is not recommended. The patient died a couple weeks after leaving the hospital.
