Summary: Dr. Connor's staff is wonderful, however, while Dr. Connor seemingly does good work, he lacks patience, compassion, can be condescending, and seems to operate on the cheap in my opinion.
Explanation: I've been managing periodontal disease for 20 years and due to moving I've had a total of 4 periodontists, therefore I have a history and know what "normal" is.
I had osseous surgery performed by Dr. Connor (this was my fourth over 20 years by different periodontists, so I knew what to expect). During my surgery he had to keep topping off the numbing agent and the last injection he gave me was particularly painful and resulted in Trismus (the inability to open my mouth very wide for 5 days). The saliva extractor that sucks saliva and debris from your mouth stopped working mid surgery. The assistant was very young and not very knowledgeable. He needed constant instruction on where to provide suction and didn't know the lingual side of a tooth from any other side. When I came back for my follow-up visit, I tried to address these issues with Dr. Connor and he didn't have the patience to sit and talk with me, he kept cutting me off mid sentence and would rush out of the room to the next patient. When the assistant called him back and told him I had questions, he begrudgingly came back and asked what the problem was. As I was trying to ask him about alternatives for numbing agents and told him about the painful last injection, his response was "oh that happens", there was no concern for my discomfort and he arrogantly asked me "you didn't feel the surgery did you?" At that point I gave up trying to address anything else with him because it was obvious he had no compassion, wasn't going to discuss alternatives, and his answer to everything was going to be "that happens". Other small but notable occurrences were that I was given a Ziplock bag with ice in it tucked in a gauze like sleeve for swelling (vs. the ice packs you smack to activate), I had to hold the x-ray machine in place with one hand because it kept falling, the dissolving stitches he put in didn't dissolve in the typical 2-3 weeks (he said they were trying a new brand) and let's not forget about the saliva extractor that stopped working mid-surgery with a suspected clog (according to Dr. Connor), which brought into question the cleanliness of their practice. To Dr. Connor's credit, when he realized I was contemplating going elsewhere for my periodontic needs, he did call me personally and gave a half-hearted apology, but was still trying to justify some of my concerns rather than owning the fact that these things shouldn't have happened. I'm giving him 3 stars because the work he did was quality work, but he could use improvement in his chair side manner.
