Would not recommend this Doctor saw his assistant more then him. I saw Dr Wade once saw assistnat 3 times when I finally say him he said he was going to have to check with her before starting me on a new med since the one she put me on I had told her I had been on with a previous Dr but she didnt care. I was told by her that I probably didnt have my illness because the pain I was in wasnt getting any better. At my new Dr office they said that with my illness some times pain meds do help every case is different but she didnt care. When I finally saw him that one tim he had nothing to say or recommend his assistant called all the shots.

Would not recommend Dr. Wade for the care and treatment of patients with Alzheimer's/Dementia. Just ran through the same questions at every visit not inquiring as to whether my dad would normally be able to answer these questions (my dad never paid attention to many things over the years simply because my mom always did them - not knowing his children's birthdays, the name of the vice president,... was normal for dad and NOT a change in mental status. I felt like he approached all elderly patients as same 'ol, same 'ol thing. He was emotionless when labeling a dx of Alzheimer's on my dad. He never addressed the impact on our family. I found him to be lacking in empathy and compassion. Some might say that he made up for it in intelligence. Maybe, but when dealing with the elderly it somehow doesn't seem like enough. You can perform all the tests in the world, make the best diagnosis and treatment recommendations, but if you can't help the family process it, you're useless in my book.RN

Dr. Wade is amazing - I've been to three MS Clinics and the one he heads up is by far the best. I was seen at Yale (thumbs down) and Griffin Hospital (again thumbs down). Dr. Wade listens, understands and doesn't talk in Doctor talk! He's a real person, givin me real help. I would highly recommend his practice. MeCT

Addendum to my 7/17/08 comments. On my office visit last week I noticed a plaque of Connecticut Magazine cover issue of Top Doctors. According to their website their criteria were: “This year, we sent more than 2,000 questionnaires to doctors across Connecticut, asking them to recommend a doctor (other than themselves) to whom they'd send a loved one for help in the specialties of pediatrics, neurology, psychiatry and dermatology. The top vote-getters make up the lists that follow.” Dr. Wade handled me a letter he was sending out to his tysabri patients(lastest treatment). Two patients had PML (brain swelling) since being on Tysabri. FDA took tysabri off the market when 2 people died of PML several years ago. Dr. Wade said he was setting up information event to come and have people questions answered. In the mealtime he be happy to answer questions over phone or during an office visit. This demonstrates to me that Dr. Wade is caring and concern physician. L. Jasinski

I been going to see Dr. Wade for over 10 years. We both have MS. He said he been watching me (without my knowledge) to see if I'm going to 2nd Progressive MS. I believed this too but not any more. He is logical and smart. He give helpful advise on MS and problems not relating to MS. He give MS seminars on his free time (nights/weekends). He was very pleased when the lastest treatment made it possible to walk without a cane. He had me walked for his nurse and told his office staffs of my improvement. He went to FDA meeting to advocate for it before the FDA finally approved lastest treatment even thou he is not eligible for it.

I visited Dr. Wade after I had a Grand Mal seizure a few years ago. He put me on Depakote without explaining most of the side effects. He simply said "you may gain 10 or 15 pounds" and that was it. The Depakote made me tired all the time and over two years of being on it I gained 75 pounds. My GPA dropped over a point, I would sleep 10-12 hours every night. My friends and family described me as being a different person. On one of my visits I asked him if he would switch my medications, telling him about a couple of other ones I had looked up. His reply to this was "Have you had a seizure on the Depakote?" to which I replied "No" and his answer was simply "Then its working and we don't need to switch you". I switched to a neurologist who would listen to me. Now I'm on Topomax (one of the alternatives I had suggested to Wade a while before) and I've lost 40 pounds so far and I'm feeling better than ever. Please, get a Neurologist who will listen to you when there's something wrong.
