Dr. Tomaras, his PA, Chad, and the entire Polaris organization are the most caring and professional medical team I have ever been fortunate enough to find. Their pre and post surgical information and attention was top notch. Dr. Tomaras performed an L4/L5 spinal fusion and in six week I have made amazing progress. Can not say enough about Polaris.

I am so thankful to Dr. Tomaras and his staff. Dr. Tomaras performed cervical fusion as needed and I could not have asked for better. He also performed lumbar fusion a couple of years ago and the experience was wonderful so of course I returned with the cervical issue. Thank you Dr. Tomaras and staff!

Dr. Tomaras and his entire staff are great. I had L4/L5 cleaned out and the entire procedure went extremely well. Dr. Tomaras was always available and most helpful. Dr. Tomaras is truly a caring person who gave me all the time I needed to answer my questions. His surgical team couldn’t have been any better. They honestly cared about my recovery and well being. I highly recommend....

I had a microsdiscectomy for a far lateral disc herniation at L4/L5 by Dr. Tamaras and I am worse off than I was before the surgery. I got another MRI five weeks after surgery which showed residual herniation that was not completely removed. Dr Tomaras elected to go with a midline approach which involved removing a fair amount of my facet joint. After consulting with two other neurosurgeons, the proper route would have been to go lateral. This would have preserved my facet joint and the herniation would have been much easier to get to. I realize there are multiple ways to approach different things but when two other neurosurgeons say "you have a direct path to the herniation going laterally and you would not have to sacrifice the facet joint”,  and “it would be very hard to get to the herniation with a midline approach”, I cannot wrack my brain as to why he would even consider not going the lateral route. From what I understand, the only reason a surgeon usually goes medial is they don’t feel comfortable anatomically going lateral because lateral herniations are not very common. If that is the case then I should have been referred to someone who did feel comfortable. The only other reason to do this is from a reimbursement standpoint as I would need another surgery. I would surely hope this was not the case. Hopefully it is a lesson learned for future cases as I am now in the same place I was before the surgery with a less stable spine and now I am having to have another microdiscetomy via the lateral approach to remove what should have been removed with the first surgery. This would mean another three months in which I cannot pick up my children and more days off of work. I am a firm believer in treating patients how you would treat yourself or a family member. I wonder if he would have done everything the same had this been one of his family members. I would highly advise getting a second opinion before surgery as this is the mistake I made.

No people skills whatsoever. I am sure he is an intelligent man but it felt like he was trying to make me feel like an idiot and thought it was funny when I would ask more questions since I have no medical knowledge.
