On 6/24/20, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, I had my second oral surgery with Dr. Mark Glyman, at Southern Hills Hospital, in Las Vegas. I am 19 years old with autism. I am blessed and honored to have Saint Mark as my oral surgeon. In Pre-Op, “The Vein Whisperer” was summoned to my room because the nurse could not find a good vein for an IV. Dr. Glyman came in, pointed out the obvious, and made the nurses and everyone in the room, including my mom, roar with laughter. I realized at that moment, that making people laugh is a gift, and when well done like Saint Mark, it is a therapeutic art form. The laughs we all shared in pre-op was a remarkable healing force and allowed me to forget all my pre-surgery jitters. I don’t think humor found that room by accident. I think Saint Mark is a skilled healer in every form and fashion. I recovered very quickly too. I love Dr. Glyman and wouldn’t trust anyone more to do my third oral surgery. In my book, Saint Mark is a skilled superhero sprinkled with a wee bit of pixie dust.

While Italy and the world explodes in coronavirus fever, Broadway goes dark, lights on the Vegas strip dim and we wallow in thoughts of life-and-death, oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Mark Glyman, risks his life and that of his amazing staff, to stay open during a pandemic for patients at Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates of Nevada.

Dr. Glyman, has been a surgical magician for my twin teenagers with autism, and respectfully, I won’t give away the tricks of his trade. I will say, that immediately after the operation of one twin, Dr. Glyman reached out in the waiting area of Southern Hills Hospital, with an update. He speaks fast, but with a kind of subdued magic that is warm, controlled and exquisite, the sort of thing you get from a good string trio.

While Dr. Glyman updates me on the success of my son’s surgery, I watch the screen behind his head roll with 14 more patients. I think, wow, unusual to take such time with a PARENT of his patient. I ask him, “Are you a workaholic?” Dr. Glyman proceeds to tell me that he has never taken a sick day in his life. He even worked after he smashed his face in a ski accident. Talk about dedication and the best part is…my sons with autism trust and adore him. Dr. Glyman understands special need idiosyncrasies in a way many doctors do not — the reason my sons nicknamed his Saint Mark. He even gave an opinion about small cavities in one kid’s mouth — way above and beyond his role as a surgeon.

Dr. Mark Glyman’s board-certified surgical skill and deep care for his patients are molded into that high form we call genius. Lucky for us, Saint Mark has dropped down into our mortal world like a shooting star. He is always there, unchanged, waiting to care for you, as is his stellar staff. The icing on the cake is that Saint Mark’s skilled hands flew off the books at Harvard Medical School and UCLA Dental School and his wings landed him in a residency for general and maxillofacial surgery at Boston’s infamous Massachusetts General Hospital. That explains all the initials after his name…MD, DDS, FACS. What more could you ask for in a surgeon?

As I see from other reviewers, this doctor has many problems with his front office staff. I hope he realizes that is costing him to lose his customers. I am one of them. To start, there were so many people waiting in the waiting room. That is never a good sign and means you'll have to wait forever even if you have an appointment. Then, they had a Christian television program. That was a first in a waiting room. Is this some sort of indoctrination?Another bad sign. The main problem was that the front office staff was rude. She was always short when she spoke as if she were already in an irritated mood. Then, she was accusatory when I didn't have the x-rays or referral form. I kindly told her that I was never asked to bring them and that my dental office had sent them. She got a bit more pushy and accusatory and said that it was in the notes that I was supposed to do that. I told her again that I was never instructed to do that and said just forget it and that I didn't want to see the doctor. So I left. She called me about 5 minutes later to say that she found the paperwork and that it was in the other office. No apology or anything. I don't know why they weren't organized enough to have it prepared for my appointment. Even when I called them at first they kept saying they never received the paperwork from my dental office. I called my dental office twice to resend it. Finally on the third call they said they had it. Too much dysfunction and rudeness at this office for me and I got another referral.

I had a tooth pulled by another oral surgeon in October who was recommended by my dentist. The swelling on my face a few days later made me look like I was hit by a truck, and my facial nerve was affected, which made me look like I had facial paralysis on my right side. When I went back to him a few days later he looked shocked when he walked in the room. He squeezed the swollen tissue and I almost leaped out of the chair from the pain! It finally subsided after a week, but I still had some pain in the gum above the extraction site. He looked at it, took a 360 degree x-ray and said he didn't understand why there was still a problem. He had me take a photo of the x-ray on my IPhone and told me to take it to an endodontist, the same one who did a second root canal ($1,300) on a tooth on the opposite side of my mouth a few weeks prior that was now clearly infected. I heard about Dr. Glyman from a friend and saw him a few days later. He immediately identified the problem and performed the extraction of the infected root canal tooth. The pain on the other side of my mouth was due to the use of a bone graft, which he said is unnecessary and a huge money-maker for oral surgeons (I was charged $600 just for the bone graft!). The extraction by Dr. Glyman brought instant relief and I was off pain meds in four hours. It healed beautifully with no swelling or nerve problems, and I was back to normal the following day. Dr. Glyman explained everything before he did anything, his knowledge, skills and experience are second to none, and he really cares about his patients. He is an amazing and gifted surgeon, and a good, compassionate man.

WORST OFFICE EVER

Incredibly selfish, self serving appointment system. Staff is incredibly lazy and do not listen or follow explicit direction. Customer service absolutely sucks. Appointment times mean nothing. Completely unprofessional operation.

I am currently seeing Dr. Glyman for my jaw issues. He performed bilateral TMJ surgery on me, and i have not had any issues since. I am currently waiting to schedule an orthognathic surgery, and I have all the confidence in the world after my first experiences with him. While his bedside manner is a little intense, he cares about his patients and is good at what he does.

I had xrays done at the other location and they were sent to Dr. Glymans office. A few of the staff had problems relaying the correct information. I went in the first time for a consult although I was told it would be the extraction of my wisdom tooth. He said he could take out the tooth with no problem. Now I have a chip in the front of the tooth that was next to it and the back of that same tooth fell off over a week ago. When I saw him a second time about this he tried to blame the separate breakages on a cavity. Funny how no one said I had a cavity and its not on the xrays. He was very arrogant and rude but told me to go to my dentist to get it fixed amd send him the bill. Well now he has blatantly lied to my dentist about informing me of the cavity and refuses to pay for it. But he'll do a free extravrion! Tell me how does a cavity break a piece off of a hardened resin filling? How does the same cavity in the bavk of the tooth take a chunk out of the front? This man is an unprofessional fraud. If he bases his preformance off of types of insurance then he is discriminatory too. Dr. Glyman your carelessness and attitude has caused at least $1500.00 worth of damage that I can't afford. Now you disgrace yourself by lying. How dare you play with peoples lives and health. You deserve to lose your lisence.

I went to have a cracked tooth extracted. Dr Glyman was personally very nice and very professional, as was his staff. I underwent the procedure using general anesthesia, and surprisingly almost healed after only,3 days. I would definitely recommend him.

Told me I shouldn't have surgery cause if I was his daughter he wouldn't let her do it. That I shouldn't bother and I should just go to some cheap orthodontic clinic. Which would actually cause more problems if I just did braces, since my jaws have uneven growth. HELLO? I'm an adult, clearly this doctor didn't bother to read my chart and realize I am 24 years old trying to fix my severe overbite, which requires orthognathic surgery. My jaw problems are pretty clear to surgeons who specialize in oral surgery. Now, I'm sure he's good enough for some people with whatever he specializes in, but hes not for me.
