For many years, I have been seeing Dr. Patay and he is one of few doctors to not order expensive unnecessary tests. Anything he has ordered has been needed. He was even familiar with a very rare disorder I had a couple years ago that was outside of what I would expect from a generalist.
He is always on time and pleasant. I got fed up with Scripps generally, but still see him.

Chop.. Chop… chop…! - Rush, Rush, Rush! Poor record keeping, no focus at all. Completely disrespects the patient’s opinion or requests about their medical needs. Obey or disappear! Loves the lipids and related diseases. Little medical knowledge but a HUGE EGO.

I have been going to Dr. Patey for almost 10 years now. And while judging a doctor's overall skill set or knowledge can be challenging for a lay person, I can say this: he has always been very professional, answers any questions I have, does not make me feel rushed, and will not hesitate to refer me to a specialist if needed. Generally speaking, I can get in to see him on fairly short notice, and my appointments are within 15 minutes of when scheduled, though you can tell that there are a lot of people in the cue. This facility is very highly rated in San Diego by Consumer Reports and others, so personally speaking, I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Patey or the Scripps facility that he works out of.

I found Dr. Patay to be very professional. He let me know of test results very quickly. I didn't have to wait to find out.

He is confident yet wrong in many situations. His analysis of the data (blood tests, MRIs) is flawed by his faulty knowledge. Specifically he stated that if their are no visible lesions on an MRI than there is a 0% chance that one would have multiple sclerosis. On a separate occasion when he disagreed with my neurologist he refused to refer me to an endocrinologist (as requested by my neurologist). When confronted he essentially had a nervous breakdown, yelling, and then his secretary called me to say I had been referred, although at this point I want nothing to do with him or his associates. On several occasions I would later look-up 'knowledge' he would share with me regarding potential diagnoses, on many occasions his 'knowledge' was outright wrong.
