Dr Beredjiklian operated on both of my hands because of arthritis at the base of the thumbs. I had lost all strength and had no use of opposing thumbs. That was six years ago and I am so happy with what he was able to do for me. My highest approval rating for him and the people at Rothman.

This month, March of 2015, marks the fourth year since I had extensive reconstruction of my left wrist and basilar thumb joint by Pedro Beredjiklian, MD. My left hand is my dominant hand and I was made aware that I might lose the use of that hand. He said I might be able to hold a "chubby" pencil. He explained my x-rays and showed me all of the destruction in the wrist. He said I would have terrible pain for a year and a half and two years for total healing. He told me all of this at my first appt. in a calm voice. I felt I had no choice and because he explained everything, I knew what to expect, knew there would be a lot of pain, knew recovery was very long and I might lose the use of my dominant hand.

We set the surgery date and I started practicing writing with my right hand. Everything went as he explained, the pain was just as he said, but once I started PT just a few blocks from my home in Wyomissing, I improved at a steady pace. I worked hard. At the next appointment I showed him I could touch my thumb to every finger and past my little finger. He was so surprised he asked if he could take pictures. I kept working as I was taught in PT and kept improving. New bone kept appearing. I was discharged after two years. I have no deficit. There was nothing that I could not do and the preoperative and postoperative pain did stop. I had the knowledge and did the work.

Now four years later all is still good. Full use without pain. Dr. Beredjiklian is a five-star doctor in every aspect.

As I am writing this, I am recovering from a second cervical operation by Alexander Vaccaro MD. June 20 will be one year, a one year expected recovery time. This is another difficult recovery. Four PT sessions left. I slept in a recliner a little over seven months. It was a difficult operation done by an exceptional surgeon. Dorian Fetherolf.

I came to be a patient of Dr. Beredjiklian by chance. I had an orthopedic surgeon in my home town who was fully aware that my left wrist needed surgery. I am left-handed and when I would pick up something it felt as though all of the bones were loose and shifted around. The doctor said “We can’t operate too soon and we can’t wait too long”. A short time later that surgeon’s practice was closed. I thought “now what”?

I made an appointment with another orthopedic group but the wait was very long. In the meantime my husband had cervical surgery by a Rothman surgeon and my situation was discussed. He recommended I see the Chief of Hand and Wrist at Rothman, Pedro Beredjiklian MD.

I got an appointment relatively soon and when that day came I carried an MRI of my wrist and we headed to the Rothman Institute. After having x-rays taken there, I was taken to an exam room, I was nervous, I was in pain and “Dr. B” walked in. It felt as though I had been holding my breath and I was able once again to breathe. There is something about Dr. Beredjiklian that makes fear evaporate...the way he makes eye contact, the tone of his voice, the feeling that at that moment I was the most important person to him that day. We got to work.

My left wrist and basilar thumb joint needed extensive surgery. I stood next to him as he pointed out the problemmatic areas on the x-rays in a way I understood. What came next was somewhat difficult to hear...what I might expect.

I might lose use of my dominant hand; maybe I would be able to hold a “chubby” pencil. I would have terrible pain for a year and a half. It would take two full years for complete healing. We set the date for surgery. March of 2015.

My surgery would be done at the SurgiCenter in the Navy Yard. I got prepped for surgery, had a nerve block in my left arm and was wheeled into the operating room. Everything was explained as it was happening and when Dr. “B” came in he looked at me and said “no worries”. I said “Okay, no worries.” I fell asleep not afraid, trusting this doctor completely.

I didn’t know how I was going to be able to tolerate the pain but I was not surprised by it. I had an appointment every three months. X-rays were taken before I saw him. At my appointment after I started PT, the x-rays showed new bone growth and then I asked him to watch me. I took my thumb and touched the tip of every finger on my left hand,. He was so pleased that he asked me if he could take pictures. Three months later I had colored a picture in an adult coloring book using skinny magic markers. It took four hours but I did it. I gave it to him and he said “Is this for me?”

This is what we did every three months for two years. I worked hard at PT and slowly I kept achieving new goals, even threading a sewing needle.

I give Dr. Beredjiklian five stars. I appreciate the fact that he prepared me for post surgery. There were no surprises. He gives you the facts, things you may not like to hear, and then you make the decision. Dr. Beredjiklian will operate but you then have to do the work. Saying “no worries” before I fell asleep sealed the deal.

I did some thorough research when in need of a surgeon for my trigger finger release and carpal tunnel surgery. After reading up on his credentials it was pretty clear that he was who I wanted to perform these surgeries the confirmation for me was definite from the very first meeting with him. His infectious smile and his comforting bedside manner was genuine. I have now had 3 trigger finger releases and 1 carpal tunnel surgery all performed by him. With the possibility of needing additional surgeries I will not hesitate to make the call to his office and get the ball rolling. I have complete trust and confidence in Dr Beredjiklian. He is truly an amazing doctor.
