Dr. Stahl is an outstanding surgeon. I feel luck to have had him as my doctor.

The Best!!! He did not want to rush into surgery right away. He wanted to talk with my 2 GI doctors about other treatments before opting for surgery. He was careful to explain when it was time, what he was going to do. My husband was at the consultation and he directed his explanation and comments to him as well and asked him if he had any questions. He held my hand and was very reassuring. I can't say enough good things about him. I highly recommend him!

Hello, Dr. Thomas Stahl is a excellent doctor and approached my condition conservatively without rushing me into surgery at the get-go. Also, I came to him in doing comparison "shopping" as other surgeons at another very noted Washington, DC hospital on my first visit wanted to schedule surgery for me immediately. In my subsequent background research, the surgical treatment the first set of surgeons were proposing was in the standard set of surgical options, but was considered by some authorities to be somewhat of an older treatment with some serious risks. So, I went to Dr. Stahl for a second opinion and he advised to "...let's go slow... and see if the condition will correct with some non-surgical treatments...(to paraphrase the doctor)" Once we got to the point of surgery, he explained his different approach and on the day of the surgery before I was wheeled in and put under, he came to me, held my hand and said "...everything will be fine....(paraphrasing again)"

I went in to see Dr Stahl only for a consultation as an existing patient. Appointment lasted less than an hour.He did comment that I would not like what he was about to say. That is because he kept talking in circles not really answering my concerns and not suggesting or recommending any options. My husband & I left very upset & frustrated. Then I was charged not only his fee of $280 but a $380 clinic fee to total $660. I never saw a nurse from clinic or had any procedure done. My insurance paid for part of this bill but I still had to pay quite a large sum. But most of all, I felt the appointment was a waste of my time and I was very disappointed in him as a doctor that he would not guide me to a next step or follow up to find out how I was doing.

Dr. Stahl is an excellent surgeon, attune to patient's needs and takes the time and makes and effort to be sure you understand your condition and any treatment he may prescribe. He also was the only MD I've ever had, who provided his email and responded in a timely and efficient manner, whenever contacted. (Of note as well: Dr. Stahl was named one of the best colo-rectal surgeon's in the DC-area by Washingtonian (http://www.washingtonian.com/articles/health/1893.html). Their ratings were peer-based, meaning other doctors rated Dr. Stahl highly in professionalism and treatment.)
