Adding to my comment below about being patronized, etc. This bad review has been weighing on my mind ever since I left it for Dr. Ogden. It occurred to me that the ER sent me to a neurologist to cover their a**es from potential litigation and that Dr. Ogden may have presumed that I wanted pain meds before I was able to tell him that the ER had sent me. My personal physican agreed to PT once I inquired about it, I ditched the meds that both she and the ER had prescribed, and I feel great. I abhor taking Percocet and segued to aspirin for pain. It's too bad for the medical community that we live in such litigious and addictive times that doctors have to be wary of such agendas from their patients. I'm adding this addendum to my Jan. 25 review to clarify. If you are reading his reviews, then you are reading them as someone needing a surgeon. I suggest you take these reviews about his demeanor in context with whatever you learn about his surgical skills. He may very well be a brilliant surgeon, and I would not want anyone to forego his abilities based on his personality.

I felt patronized, condescended to, and minimized by this doctor. I was referred to him by the ER after a serious fall broke three of my vertebrae, bruised my ribs, tore my muscles. His first question was, "Why are you here?" after slapping my file shut. When I told him that the ER had referred me, he opened the file back up, looked for the proof, then said "Well, they're stupid. There's nothing I can do for you." He sped over my imaging results, asked why I had been in the ER a year ago, then said, "I don't know; you're the one that was there." when I didn't understand the medical terminology. He followed that up with, "Doesn't matter. It's not important." At one point he said nothing interesting was going on with my back, to which I replied "I'm sorry to disappoint you today." I was thrilled that he wasn't going to recommend any surgery, but he ushered me out so quickly, with a "Take care, dear", that I never got to ask him about self-help care, core strengthening exercises, or any other advice. True, he may not have been the one to answer these questions; but he talked to me as if I were a child and exhibited no empathy whatsoever. I will never, ever give my business to this doctor again.

I agree with the comment that he has poor communication skills. I feel like he just assumes I can read his mind or something. I am a HR Director and know how important communication is. At one point I even said, please just send a text message or anything - I just need to know what is going on. Sometimes the medical community forgets that the average person has no idea what is going on and needs more communication, even if it's just to say "we are working on it". They also need to realize that people are worried and afraid of surgeries, the physician needs to communicate and comfort the patient. Also, the scheduling is insane. It takes a month or sometimes two just to get an appointment. His staff is much better now that he replaced his secretary / nurse with a new one. I think he is very intelligent, but unfortunately, I think his lack of communication skills is frustrating and makes him appear to be uncaring.

Please do not go to this dr. He messed up my surgery, had to fix his mistake 2 days later. Still in a lot of pain. There are many, many other things wrong with him and his staff. But he's still my doctor, so I don't want to go into much detail. Don't care for his bedside manner at all. Wish I would have went to another surgeon. Had an mri done, and don't even have a follow up appointment to go over it with him. His staff is very slow about getting things done. Last visit I waited one hour and twenty minutes to see him, after an hour ride there, and I was crying from the pain. Very unsatisfied with him and his staff.

The most amazing surgeon I've ever had. Very caring about his patients, even after surgery. He doesn't beat around the bush.. He tells it how it is. And does what he thinks is best. After 2 surgeries with him I'm going in for my third back surgery. And as the other comment said he's easy on the eyes. Haha I call him dr mchottie. He has an amazing staff as well. And hey, everyone says I have a pretty scar.
