Dr. James Nixon is a very caring, knowledgeable surgeon. He answered all of my questions and performed my cholecystectomy with skill even with other health issues present.

I had my gallbladder out the end of November. I was somewhat nervous about the procedure until I spoke with Dr Nixon. He was thorough, patient, and very knowledgeable. He explained the procedure from start to finish very clearly. Before the surgery he stopped by my bed and explained the procedure again and then took the time to ask how I was and asked about my family. After the surgery, he stopped by again to ensure I had the appropriate discharge procedures and personally called my husband. Once I was home, I had a few complications which were quickly followed up by a phone call from his staff and by Dr. Nixon personally. I feel exceptionally lucky to have had this surgeon and would highly recommend him in the future!!!

I had a hernia repair with Dr. Nixon roughly 12 hours upon writing this comment. I want to just say how pleased I am with my experience with Dr. Nixon and his staff. Our first consultation was great, he had good bedside manners and was very respectful and professional. I had originally scheduled my operation for December, but I was pleasantly surprised when I received a call asking me if I could have my operation done earlier due to a last minute cancellation. My operation was at the Peter Lougheed, and i couldn't have asked for a smoother outcome. When I was recovering in my unit, the nurses had trouble addressing an issue with my dressing.. twice! I was dripping blood everytime I stood up to go to the bathroom. I was surprised when Dr. Nixon came in to check up on me. He saw my dressing and immediately said it was no good. After completely removing it and re-doing the dressing, I was no longer leaving a trail of blood everywhere. 12 hours in, I am feeling (relatively) good!

I got reffered to dr nixon from a family Dr. When i met Dr, Nixon , he was so nice welcoming and pleasent, very soft spoken and he did have an assistant helping him aswell and he was very nice also, he asked most of the questions. I was told he was a highly recommed surgeon and now i know why. Before the surgery he comes to make sure your ok and if you have any questions and then u see him at your checkup boom bang done. Thank you Dr. Nixon for taking my pain away...... your the best :-)

Highly recommended. Saw Dr Nixon about gallstones. At same time I asked his opinion on another matter that he had previous experience with (I did my research on him prior to visiting) and he gave me an honest opinion about my other issue and had me in to see another doctor within two weeks which led to surgery that finally helped after years and years of suffering. I thank Dr. Nixon for his caring, he has a great sense of humor, terrific bedside manner, especially when one is laying anxious in their bed pre-op. I think he's just a dream and anyone lucky enough to see him is in the BEST hands. Thank you Dr. Nixon for your help and for being you. I trust him implicitely and through a long life of endless health issues I feel confident in saying he is one of the best.

I went to Emergency at Peter Lougheed October 2011 with appendicitis. Dr. Nixon was the surgeon that operated on me. He called my husband, himself, at 1 am in the morning to tell him that the surgery went well. The surgery was done laparoscopic and I healed easily with very little pain. The next morning he came to see me to inform me of what he found. I found Dr. Nixon very personable and caring. He called me the day that he received the pathology report. During our followup appointment he explained everything clearly to me and acted like he had all the time in the world to be with me. If I ever need to have surgery again, I want Dr. Nixon to be the surgeon.

Some years ago had thyroidectomy. Specialist said protocol is a complete t/o but Nixon said he'd take half then if positive for cancer I would have more major surgery for the rest. Tests already showed it was cancer yet I had to almost beg. Right before surgery the orders showed half removal. I asked to see him. He came up in a rage and drew a giant felt line across my neck to show the the forthcoming scar. It had already been 6 months since discovery. I didn't have time to start with a new surgeon so I had the surgery. The following day he said I was doing well and was sending me home! 36 hours after major invasive surgery he discharged me, still sick from anesthesia knowing I lived alone & was afraid of the risks - 24h later Staph Infection ensued. Weeks later he called to say it WAS cancer & seemed quite shocked/upset. Why did he think I was having surgery? Doesn't listen. Bizarre experience & I wouldn't recommend him. Thought he would have retired by now. He should have.
