Terrible, no beside manner, told me I needed surgery immediately, which was not the case , very quick at answering questions without giving any adequate information except to tell me she was the best of any doctor at robotic surgery. Gave herself very high praises and told me I needed immediate surgery which was not the case. I found that out after I chose the Cleveland Clinic where real professionals practice medicine.

I saw Dr. Von Gruenigen for a suspicious ovarian cyst. My internist, also an oncologist, and my gynecologist had very strongly recommended I have my ovaries and fallopian tubes removed before this cyst was even present due to a strong family history of breast and ovarian cancer and being of Eastern European descent. My ultrasound and MRI report indicated there was a possible of ovarian cancer, though most likely not. She walked in the room and told me that I definitely didn't have cancer. It was certainly what I wanted to hear, but my internist and gynecologist said while cancer was unlikely, I absolutely needed surgery. She said that since my Mom was BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 negative, there was no possibility of a genetic tendency , inspite of my Mom's breast and ovarian cancer. She told me I had no need to have another ultrasound. In addition, she said I would have a long and difficult surgery and recuperation and might have pain issues the rest of my life because I had scar tissue from previous bowel obstructions. I went to a wonderful doctor at the Cleveland Clinic who said I absolutely needed surgery due to my family history, being of Eastern European descent, and the cyst had an up to 8% chance of being a cancer. My surgery took twenty minutes, the suspicious cyst was benign, and I only needed one Tylenol and three Motrins in the course of 10 days. I was home six hours after my surgery. Very little nausea, no bleeding, and no problems with scar tissue. Dr. Von Gruenigen seemed to have no knowledge of the other genetic mutations that cause Ovarian Cancer in Jewish women. She told me that the pain Ivwas feeling was due to my gastrointestinal issues and her office called with a referral. When I called back I told the medical assistant about my experience with the doc who ultimately did my surgery. A week later the assistant called back to say Dr. Von Gruenigen would do the surgery if Inreally wanted it. Thanks, but no thank you!

Dr. Vivian is a gynecologic-oncologist (female cancer specialist). She is a caring, thorough doctor whom I would recommend with enthusiasm. Having cancer is scary, but she goes out of her way to make the patient feel that the very best is being done for her.
