Dr. Barber has all the characteristics one wants in a surgeon: meticulous, fast so under anesthesia for a shorter time, exceedingly knowledgeable, national and international thought leader, up to date on best practice procedures for surgery, offers photos and recording of the surgery. He is one of the best surgeons in the country.

Dr Barber and his PA were amazing! Super child friendly! They diagnosed the problem spot on, gave insightful information, and made helpful suggestions. I would recommend this Dr and his staff to anyone I know. Quick, easy visit.

Dr. Barber treated me for knee pain that I have been dealing with for awhile. He took the time to listen to my issues, reviewed treatment options, and I felt he really cared about helping me get the issue resolved. In the end surgery was needed to fix my knee issue and his knowledge and expertise cannot be beat. I'm still in the early recovery stages but I have nothing but great things to say about my experience with Plano Orthopedics and Dr. Alan Barber. I've been to a lot of orthopedic doctors in the last 20 years for various sports injuries and I have to say Dr. Barber has been the best experience. Wait time to be seen has been excellent. Most of the time I'm back seeing Dr. Barber and his PA before my actual appointment time. Bedside Manner - Excellent, Dr. Barber and his staff make you feel like your the top priority. It's nice to have a doctor willing to sit down with you in a room and listen to you!

Dr. Barber was courteous but was arrogant, condescending and sexist during my first visit to him. I felt rushed during my time with him and also with his PA. I don't feel I received adequate information about my condition without my having to continually ask questions. I don't know if I'll make a return visit.

Doctor and PA have been excellent. Although there is one very gracious and helpful office-staff person, I have found that not everyone in the front office is this way. I don't have tolerance for these types of people on a normal basis, let alone when I am injured and asking for help.

Only bad thing about this doc is he makes you wait for ever to be seen.

I arrived early for my appointment. I was told that my insurance was coming up as terminated. I asked the manager if I could call Blue Cross to straighten it out. He said yes. As I was wrapping up the call, one of the office’s assistants called me but saw me on the phone. I told her the insurance issue is being corrected. After the call, the woman at the counter told me the doctor is refusing to see me and I have to reschedule. I told her that I drove a long way and took a day off to see Dr. Barber. The woman called someone in the back and said, “We have a situation here,” as though I’m a trouble-maker. Finally after a while, she told me that they’ll see me. The nurse came in first. She accused me of being 45 minutes late and being on the phone, when I was actually early and their manager TOLD ME I could call my insurance. She was aggressive, angry, rude, offensive, and accusatory. After being treated so horribly, I got up and walked out of the office. I DO NOT recommend them at all.

Dr. Barber may be best at diagnosising and treating kids with sports injuries. Dr. Barber looked at my MRI photos and his diagnosis was completely different from what my family doctor had told me was on the MRI report. I didn't have the report in my hand at the time of appointment and he didn't read the report He obviously wanted to evaluate the images himself so he buzzed though 30 MRI images in about 10 seconds (no exaggeration!) and declared that I had 1 minor injury not worth treating. When I got the MRI report in the mail the next day it listed 2 serious and 2 minor injuries, and a surgery consult was recommended. Dr. Barber didn't listen to me about the MRI, was even a bit condescending. He also didn't listen to me about what I was doing when I got injury (housework)and kept harping on about it being a sports strain. I am a middle-aged woman who doesn't play sports. It was like he was trying to fit my complaints into his expertise - odd.

Excellent results. Scoped my knee to remove torn cartiledge. I am a soccer referee I run 5-7 miles on a given Saturday. Operation was 4 years ago, I was back on the pitch after a few months, and have had no problems since then. Highly recommended.
