I'm a patient of Dr. Stock and have been for about a year now. He's blunt and to the point, but as far as psychiatrists go that is fairly standard. He does ask the same questions each visit, but if you have anything to say as far as issues he is happy to further explore them. I think many of the people commenting don't understand that a psychiatrists job is to prescribe medication to treat mental health disorders. It's your therapist's job to hold your hand through the process, but unless it is a symptom or a side effect it is honestly irrelevant to the chemical side of psychiatric care. This is the first doctor I've gone to that actually gets me an appointment if I'm in crisis. I'll be the first to admit I'm not the most observant but as far as the complaints about messiness, the only thing I've ever noticed that's a bit out of place is a dog that is always just asleep under his desk, I've never felt distracted or inconvenienced by its presence. The staff is always polite, the wait times are between five and twenty minutes (once it was about forty but that was very out of place) which compared to the other offices I've been to, even general practitioners, is nothing. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Stock to anyone seeking psychiatric care but I would include the (obvious) warning that you should also have a competent therapist who you trust to help sort out symptoms from side effects and chemical issues from things that should be addressed with CBT. Any time starting or increasing new medication he has given thorough warnings on potential side effects and reassurance that if something doesn't seem right I can always make an appointment earlier than our usual scheduled monthly or biweekly. Visits may be short if you say everything is going well, but anytime I've had an issue it's gotten addressed. Honestly, just being able to get in is invaluable and saved me from having to go inpatient when I was a new patient because it was looking like a three month wait time for any other doctors in the area while this office was able to get me in in about two weeks. The tough truth is that if you want a typical psychiatrist office, go somewhere else. If you want someone who can see you in a timely matter, see Dr. Stock. If you want someone to hold your hand and help you talk about your feelings, get a therapist.
