I'm a patient of Dr. Stock and have been for about a year now. He's blunt and to the point, but as far as psychiatrists go that is fairly standard. He does ask the same questions each visit, but if you have anything to say as far as issues he is happy to further explore them. I think many of the people commenting don't understand that a psychiatrists job is to prescribe medication to treat mental health disorders. It's your therapist's job to hold your hand through the process, but unless it is a symptom or a side effect it is honestly irrelevant to the chemical side of psychiatric care. This is the first doctor I've gone to that actually gets me an appointment if I'm in crisis. I'll be the first to admit I'm not the most observant but as far as the complaints about messiness, the only thing I've ever noticed that's a bit out of place is a dog that is always just asleep under his desk, I've never felt distracted or inconvenienced by its presence. The staff is always polite, the wait times are between five and twenty minutes (once it was about forty but that was very out of place) which compared to the other offices I've been to, even general practitioners, is nothing. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Stock to anyone seeking psychiatric care but I would include the (obvious) warning that you should also have a competent therapist who you trust to help sort out symptoms from side effects and chemical issues from things that should be addressed with CBT. Any time starting or increasing new medication he has given thorough warnings on potential side effects and reassurance that if something doesn't seem right I can always make an appointment earlier than our usual scheduled monthly or biweekly. Visits may be short if you say everything is going well, but anytime I've had an issue it's gotten addressed. Honestly, just being able to get in is invaluable and saved me from having to go inpatient when I was a new patient because it was looking like a three month wait time for any other doctors in the area while this office was able to get me in in about two weeks. The tough truth is that if you want a typical psychiatrist office, go somewhere else. If you want someone who can see you in a timely matter, see Dr. Stock. If you want someone to hold your hand and help you talk about your feelings, get a therapist.

I have been seeing Dr. Stock for several years now and I absolutely love the care that I receive. If you are looking for a fancy office, by all means, move along. You can tell that this is a small private practice and seems family owned. I have personally seen the staff clean up in the restroom when they notice that it is a mess (this is a semi-public restroom and people do not always make sure to clean up after themselves! I do not fault the office for other patient's messy habits!!!). As for the dead dogs all over the office...really? This doctor had two of the sweetest dogs that calm me down by loving on me. He now has one because the older dog passed last year and it was definitely a sad time for patients. Over the years his staff has become like family to me. Since my first day in his office, they have always been welcoming, the always ask how you are and will chat with you as you check in and as you check out. Yes, sometimes one of the girls in the back has a messy desk but she knows what she is doing. I don't usually have an issue with a missed appointment because they give me a card as a reminder. When I have missed or had to cancel late, the staff and Dr. Stock have been more than understanding because of the situation I was facing at the time. He isn't your typical psychiatrist and I enjoy that. I am seen because I have depression and I appreciate the jokes and casual atmosphere of his office. I also appreciate the listing of questions because when I hesitate or say yes to something being wrong he stops immediately and talks to me about that one thing in particular. I have been in his office for 5 minutes for a medicine check and I have been in his office for 30 minutes for a medicine check. His staff is always great about getting me in when I am having a rough time and their tone is always calming when they say things like, its ok; we will get you seen, never feel like you cannot call us, and no you are not a bother, this is what we are here for. I have NEVER been treated so well by an office staff before in my life and I have been treated since I was 17 and I am not 56. The staff becomes like an extended family and you aren't just another patient....you are a person that is respected and appreciated.

I'll make it simple for people reading these reviews. The ones that are positive are most likely written by his staff per his orders (that's the kind of person he is). The bad reviews are 110% accurate! Office is filthy, dead dogs everywhere, roaches on the counter, has everyone's records all over the floor and will try and charge you no show fees for appointments you've never booked and say "you can only pay that in cash". This guy needs help of his own, I'm sorry but like others have said, if you've never seen another psychiatrist go see one and you'll figure out real quick what's going on.

I wish people would stop bashing Dr. Stock. I lost a fabulous and unique Psychiatrist after Katrina washed away her business and home. She was unique in that she did her own therapy and prescribed medications. I say that to say that after Katrina I went to another Psychiatrist who prescribed but did not do therapy sessions. It was not a good fit for me as I did not feel cared for and when I asked for therapy I was told she would not be free for three months. Well, you know that if you are asking for help, three months is not acceptable. I kept looking and found Dr. Stock. Now, he does not do his own counseling, however, he listened and got me to a therapist right there in his office. I could have gone anywhere, but chose to stay where I felt cared for. Dr. Stock has been good to me, yes he goes through the questions each time, but anyone working in healthcare understands this as the norm. I find him down to earth, truthful, honest, and knowledgeable. I find the pets in the office is quite comforting. By the way, my first doctor also had her pet in the office.
So, I say all that to say, Dr. Stock is a good doctor.
If you are afraid of a few dog hairs, don't like the questions or his office, move along and see if you can find what you are looking for. By the way, not meaning to be accusatory by any means, if you are by any chance trying to get meds that you don't really need, or if you are noncompliant with your treatment, Dr. Stock's knowledge ill see through that also. Best wishes and I hope you find what you looking for.

Dr. Stock had a huge impact on my son's life. He was 5 years old and going through an ordeal with his emotions and behavior. After a year of fending of the school from pushing my son w/ a diagnosis of ADHD etc. and exhausting other options (behavior mod, counseling and more) I felt a psychiatrist was my last option. I must admit, Dr. Stock's demeanor is quite casual and at first I was a bit alarmed. I mean most psychiatrists wouldn't touch my son because he was so young and our family had been through such an ongoing nightmare, I was nervous and this guy was so laid back. However, I saw right away that he was very interested in my little boy and genuinely wanted to help. He asked a lot of questions and we felt he REALLY listened. Dr. Stock was VERY conservative regarding doses and prescriptions. I always felt comfortable calling with questions and he was very big on close monitoring and followup. As a matter of fact the one time things did not go well he actually returned my call in record time from halfway across the country on his personal vacation. In the end, the medication didn't work and we decided to go another route with Dr. Stock's recommendation. When I shared this story with others people continued to compliment his decision. After all, most psychiatrist's believe their job is to continue writing prescriptions upon prescriptions until something works. This doctor ruled out my son's problems being chemical and helped us get emotional/behavioral support that he needed. He is now a productive teen with a bright future. I often think of Dr. Stock and I am certain that he is one of the people who helped my son through a difficult time and assisted him in becoming the wonderful young man he is today. I am grateful we found him and would recommend to anyone.

This guy is crazier than a fruitcake. His office where he sees patients is FILTHY. Old burger wrappers, and many of them, on his desk with piles of unorganized mess. And dogs....everywhere. I have no problem with animals, but I don't think the Dr OFFICE is the appropriate place for them. Especially with them shedding on the couch next to you. He took ZERO time to evaluate me. Didn't talk to me, just asked a couple of crazy questions. Do NOT RECOMMEND

He is the worst doctor I've ever seen. I went in for a problem with anxiety and he refused to treat me for that. I would highly suggest that if you are looking for a psychiatrist you look else where.
