Had 2 appts. Was kept waiting for ~3 hours for each. Dr. Chiu was rude and short. After the 3 hour wait he spent ~10min with me. He made me feel like my questions were annoying him. The rest of the staff was warm and lovely. However, I would never go here again. I picked up my records and went to another doctor.

From the front office staff who were so helpful getting me started and approved, to the pre op staff, to the OR staff, the X-ray staff and last but no least, the post opt staff, all are top notch and really concerned about every detail for you. I worked for the CHP and been around medical people all my life, no where is there as more caring and friendly staff who tend to every need and detail. Dr Chiu took all the time I needed to fully understand my case and exactly what he was going to do. Enough can not be said about all his staff and assistants. I will recommed this service to all my co workers and friends. Having had open back surgery before, this was so much easier on me, I highly recommend this surgery to any and all who have a problem where you can avoid the full open back with hospital stay. This is an in and out procedure. You will not be dissipointed at all with the Dr's or staff. Dr Chiu, you have a great team, no finer staff around? Thank you!

I have been suffering with very severe right lower back and right leg pain for over six years. I had gone to many doctors during that time and they all prescribed drugs and physical therapy, which would help for a while but the symptoms would always come back. On a Wednesday I went to Dr Chiu for help as I was in a lot of pain. After doing a very detailed work up which include MRI, CT and X-Rays he diagnosed me as having four very large herniated disks in the lumbar region which were compressing nerve roots which were in turn the cause of my pain all these years. He scheduled me for surgery the next day at 9:00 AM. At 3:00PM I was walking pain free and in my home having dinner by 6:00 PM that same day. I cannot believe how good I feel! Wish I had gone to see Dr Chiu 6 years ago. Dr Chiu is the most caring doctor that I have ever had; he really makes you feel that your health is his number one priority. I highly recommend Dr Chiu.

Was told was to cost only 60,000.00 total. Boy there were costs for all kinds of tests before, and after the operations. They never told me about that.Had to pay 100+ dollars to have my file looked at, so doctor could say yes or no. Had to put 7,500.00 up front, before surgery. The Insurance company finely stopped paying, and now my turn. You need very very deep pockets to use this Doctor, as you will be paying for ever. I would rate myself as being 50% better than before after 2 years.

Dr Chiu is the best neurosurgeon. I had herniated cervical discs with cord compression and was told by the best doctors in Texas that multilevel fusion was my only option. Dr. Chiu did laser diseconomies on two levels. It is now 5 years later and I am still doing well. Yes you will have to wait but it is because people come from all over the world and he never turns them away.

Long story short, I signed up for a free clinical trial involving disc spacers and ended up with $60.000 botched triple discectomy after i disclosed the evening before surgery that the back problems I was having were due to an accident, and that I was in litigation. This change was made the morning of my surgery when I was in gown and IV drip. I was wisked into office, asked to sign paperwork (which I was asked not to date), and ended up ambulatory that evening to local emergency room(plus 3 more emergency room trips). Was never asked to return for a follow up regarding initial surgery or extreme complications. Lately I got in contact with someone who is in the clinical trial, and he is doing great with the spacer device. Call me naive, but I made the mistake of trusting a doctor.

I was sucked in by Dr. Chiu fancy Website, I flew from Ohio to his clinic in Thousand Oaks, California where he redid all my MRI's, X-rays and nerve tests. I was told the three surgeries I had in a week would fix my back and neck pain that was 2002, my neck is worse and has never gotten better. My low back felt a little better after the two months of severe pain for maybe four months. But never well enough to get fully off pain medicines, Do not believe a word Dr. Chiu or Dr.Clifford say. I was told I would never get better if I did not get off pain medicines. I tried so hard did everything I was told but the pain did not go away, I felt like I failed and there must be something wrong with me. I am so glad I found this Website and I now see that I am not the only one. I am so sorry anyone has to deal with pain daily and Dr. Chiu has made things worse for anyone .

Dr. Chiu seems to have a good reputation when I researched him...however, coming to see this doctor was such a drag. For one of my visits, I literally had to wait almost 8 hours to see him for less than 20 minutes. Usually when I see him, I have to wait for a few hours. Dr. Chiu and his staff reeeeeeeeeally INSISTS on their treatment despite my doubts. They rushed me and didn't really LISTEN to my concerns *sigh* I hope things get better :/

Dr. Chiu saved my life last fall when he operated on my severely herniated C-5 and C-6 discs after 8 years of severe pain, severe complications, partial long-term disablement; and finally being diagnosed as "terminal" both in Canada, where there is no available access to medical help for over 4 million tax-payers like me, and in the USA.I have referred other severely disabled, chronic pain, spinal cord-injured patients to Dr. Chiu since; and their surgeries have been successful as well; and worth the personal expense, and inconvenience of seeking medical help and travelling to another country. I am off all heart medications and all painkillers after 8 years; and am no longer deemed to be a "terminal chronic pain patient". Dr. Chiu was extremely competent, informative, and compassionate. That he runs late is merely a reflection of how busy he is, in the USA and as a travelling professor. I have full confidence in him and his methods and shall continue to refer other patients.
