Dr. Wakeman seemed intelligent, articulate, insightful, interested, and he recommended various books, both for me and my family. He asked many questions in order to understand my situation and attempt a careful diagnosis; which cannot be easy to do in an hour. He never yelled or acted insensitive. He seemed engaged and in tune to my emotions. I think he cared & tried to help, which gave me hope. Prior to our appointment, I had heard that he's a good doctor from other doctors which inspired some trust and faith in him. He also cares about ethics. It cannot be easy to have someone off-load their sensitive and highly charged emotions, but I guess that is what he gets paid to do. It takes a special gift to help someone navigate through emotional trauma day in and day out. I'm glad that I had an hour of his time. He's human - caring and engaging - which makes him a better doctor than someone who remains reserved and aloof.

My visit to Dr. W was like night and day from one I'd had with another psychiatrist. He was respectful and thorough and gave me a solid diagnosis with good recommendations. He also took into account my wishes and choices for treatment. I highly recommend him!

A very intelligent, caring, and gifted psychiatrist: a thoughtful, encouraging, helpful, & faithful ally in my battle with mental illness. Takes the risk of actually caring for his patients despite the personal costs that this must come at. Uses a well integrated 'biopsychosocial' approach to therapy, with much appreciated spiritual awareness and sensitivity. A dedicated & true therapist, who does 'hard work' with patients using a multifaceted/eclectic style, while open to new ideas--not simply a psych med dispensary as found with some psychiatrists. I think he is a real gift to his patients.

This Doctor saved my mom's life! We have gone through many types of treatment for her depression and Dr Wakeman was the only one with patience and kindness and a willingness to heal her completely, not just medicate her. He took care of her emotional pain as well as physical and constantly works towards decreasing her meds and keeping her depression away. If it weren't for Dr Wakeman, my mom would still be in the hospital or at home, crying in bed.

Avoid this doctor. He is hostile and has his own issues to work through. His approach is both unconventional and unprofessional. For instance, he yelled at me during our first session, which is unacceptable on two levels. One, he didn't know me well enough to find such fault with me. Two, a doctor should never yell at a patient, unless perhaps the doctor is in some sort of physical danger. Since that wasn't the case, his hostility was not only unproductive but destructive. From my perspective, it seems this doctor is struggling with his own emotional issues, which are negatively impacting his therapy practice. A doctor's office should be a safe place to learn and grow. It should never be a place of abuse. For this reason, I strongly recommend avoiding Dr. Wakeman.

Dr. Wakeman was helpful in providing me with an external perspective, exploring medications and respecting my wishes around what was important to me. I appreciated how he valued my faith and allowed me to bring it into the session. He's a great doctor
