I was diagnosed with one of my disorders in 2017, in my first stay in a psychiatric ward. I clearly was offended by the diagnosis the psychiatrists at the hospital concluded and I made that very clear when I booked and attended my appointment for a second opinion, and that was to see Dr Kachhap. In total, she spent over 3 hours with me before diagnosing me in addition to what I had previously been diagnosed with. She agreed on the diagnosis of the disorder I was firstly diagnosed with at the hospital, but instead of just informing me of my diagnosis, she spent time sitting with me and explaining the disorder and educating me about the common misconceptions of the disorder. She circled back to the detailed notes she had been writing whilst listening and talking with me. She made me feel relieved and enlightened instead of ashamed and angry. She didn’t make me feel judged and took the time to answer all of my questions and concerns, leaving no rock unturned. She did a short consult with me via Telehealth on one occasion and didn’t charge me for it. She bulk-billed a third appointment when I should have been out of pocket because she knew I needed the help but lacked the funds. She was reliable and prompt in regards to correspondence and detailed reports with and to my GP, after every appointment I had with her. She recommended a specialised therapy that is the correct and appropriate evidence based therapy for the disorder that I was diagnosed with. Initially I couldn’t afford the therapy, so she did research into a more affordable government funded program that I would have had more luck attending, before Victims Assist approved the grant for me to engage in a private therapy program. She even explained a diet to me that counteracted the weight gain caused by a medication side effect. We discussed medication together instead of her writing a script and giving it to me, like many other doctors do. I could go on! Dr Kachhap’s bedside manner was great, also. Her professionalism is fantastic, and she is so clearly educated as well as being informative. I highly recommend her. If it were not for Dr Kachhap, I genuinely believe I would be uneducated on mental illness and mental health, the way I am today. I believe I would be completely misguided and because of Dr Kachhap, I can now focus on my recovery whilst be confident in my medical professionals and support. I am forever grateful!

Dr Kachhap refused to communicate with other professionals working with me, including my GP. She kept prescribing Valium which just created more issues. She was nice, she had knowledge, but she is not for people with complex and acute mental health issues.

Has helped me immensely after a severe work injury. Would recommend her without hesitation. I have been seeing her for over 5 years now due to the ongoing PTSD and injury-related problems.

Super caring and helpful doctor. I got everything I needed out of the appointment I had. I was nervous to see her after reading most of these comments but I had a completely different experience. I found her to be incredibly understanding and informative.

Dr Kachhap, is an outstanding Psychiatrist who has helped me through one of the most traumatic times of my life where I had no hope of ever coming out of the trauma. She has given me a great understanding of my illness caused by others, and treated me with kindness giving me confidence and certainty that there is light at the end of my tunnel of madness (my life).

Among the worst I have seen, didn't listen then pushed a drug on me that wasn't on the PBS and is riddled with side effects, of which she did not inform me. I strongly believe she has the pharmy luck backs going on.

Unfortunately I have to disagree with the previous reviewer. I found her vague and unsure. Other patients found her the same way when I was in Pine Rivers Private Hospital. She also had this way of looking down her nose at you, smug superior and self-satisfied and always seemed preoccupied with her personal appearance. She also had this weird rule that all patients had to be grounded on the unit for the entire first week, regardless of condition. And she only visits in hospital twice a week which is unacceptable.
