Had massive superior rotator cuff tear. Saw 3 different surgeons in BC who all told me that it couldn't be repaired and would have more than a 80% failure rate. The only option was shoulder replacement. Thought I should check with private and consulted with Dr. Shantz who had a different perspective. Went ahead with surgery at Acumen Calgary 2 years later. So amazed by the care and talent of Dr. Shantz and the whole Acumen team.

I had a plazma injection in september for my meniscus tear, and now I have no more pain there, I has done wonders for my life. highly recommend this instead of going the surgery way. It took about a month to see results...

Though it is uncommon for me to write this type of review I feel compelled to share my experience. I met Dr SS through easily booking with his office and was booked for surgery a month later. I was on a wait list at that point in the public system that would be about 16-18 more months. The shoulder surgery was more extensive than hoped and the recovery difficult, but with a lot of encouragement and support from Dr Shantz I am on track for a full and complete recovery and return to the gym and sport. Saving what could be almost two years of activity time made this choice an easy one.

I paid for a private MRI and paid for Dr Shantz to read and interpret the MRI. Very happy I did. Helped me understand and seek the right treatment. Thank you.

I tore my right ACL skiing at Norquay in early 2021. I searched for top rated orthopedic surgeons in Calgary and found Dr. Shantz. He re-constructed my ACL using a donor ligament. The surgery went well, and with the support of his nurses and rehabilitation staff, I was back on skis by February 2022. Excellent communication, both pre and post surgery. Always on time and patient with my questions. Just a great experience. Would definitely recommend using the rehab facilities, as it sped up my recovery. Top marks!!

It almost seems redundant to leave another 5 star review for Dr Shantz, but why not since it is all true. He did private shoulder surgery on me 10 months ago (three very torn rotator cuff muscles). I am from Vancouver but it was done in Calgary due to the bizarre rules in Canada re private surgery. The results are great. The damage was all caused by tennis and I did have to take a long time off, but I am now back playing as good as ever. Life is short and if you can afford it, this is the way to go.

I ruptured my left ACL ligament in a snow skiing incident in 2019. I am not one to dilly dally so rather than wait months for a public surgeon appointment I somehow found Jesse Slade Shantz. This was probably in the top 5 most fortuitous finds of my life. I contacted Jesse’s office and had an in-person consultation within a week. Any trepidation I may have felt disappeared within the first couple of minutes of my consultation. Jesse inspires confidence from the get go! His manner and knowledge removed my fear. Jesse performed my surgery (allograft) about 10 days after my consult! His manner on the day of the surgery inspires confidence. This man is exceptional. My recovery was very well organized by his staff who were exceptionally cordial and efficient with Jesse overseeing every step of the way. My first graft failed through no fault of Jesse’s. I chose a hamstring graft for my second surgery. Again this second experience was dealt with equally well. Jesse’s follow up to my second surgery was exceptional as well. 2 years after that surgery his staff phoned just to see how I was doing! I voiced some concern over a vague full sensation behind my knee cap. Within a week I had an in person consultation and follow up diagnostics which showed no issues. My knee is almost perfect, I am an adrenaline junkie and my repaired knee has not let me down even once! Thank you Jesse and your amazing team. Thanks to you this 70 year old man is skiing, cycling and rockclimbing like a 40 year old person. If you have a sports injury this is the man to see. Easily a five star rating from me!! From a very pleased patient…..James Graham

After waiting 8 months to get to public hospital for arthroscopic surgery, finally I decided to go private. I was introduced to Dr. Jesse Shantz. It took him only 2 weeks to do surgery on my shoulder. I had a large tendon tear which unfortunately MRI did not see well. Dr. Shantz did surgery on me and now I feel my arm motion is coming back and the pain completely gone. That was probably, the best decision of my life. I rate Dr. Shantz the best, five over five. He is great, extremely experienced, and knowledgeable in sport related surgeries. His stuff are very nice and experienced. Overall the best team.

I would like to thank Dr. Jesse for the amazing results on my Rotator cuff surgery have been. Upon being told it could be three years before getting my shoulder surgery we decided to go the private clinic route. Have not regretted it at all. When your therapists tell you what an amazing job was done on my shoulder by Dr. Jesse that is amazing. Thank you Dr. Jesse and all of your staff. Hopefully you and your family have not been affected by the floods in B.C.
