Biography
I am a Clinical Psychologist registered with The Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology and a member of The Association of Psychologists of Nova Scotia. I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology at Dalhousie University, my Masters and PhD. degrees in clinical psychology at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, and my Doctoral Internship at The University of Manitoba. During my career I have worked in hospitals, forensic settings, psychiatric institutions, community services, universities, counselling centres, private clinics, and as the owner of Green Leaf Psychological Services in Halifax. I am comfortable offering therapy for a wide range of personal difficulties and have particular interests in helping clients overcome issues related to depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, video game addiction, anger, shyness and social anxiety, abusive relationships, assertiveness, grief, breakups and divorce, panic attacks, and perfectionism. I provide assessments for Learning Disorders, Child ADHD, Adult ADHD, Dyslexia, IQ, Giftedness, and Academic issues. I take great pride in every assessment I offer, do everything possible to make sure that it is a relaxed and enjoyable experience (especially for child assessments), and will personally sit down to discuss the results and answer all questions when the final report is complete. In therapy, I use a client-centred, solution-focused approach, combined with elements of cognitive behavioural therapy and motivational interviewing. I also have training and experience using a psychodynamic model and incorporate this approach when it can be helpful. I believe that developing a sense of hope, self-confidence, and taking control of one’s life are three of the most important therapy goals and are also essential factors for personal growth and satisfaction. Clients are assisted in identifying clear attainable goals for personal change and empirically validated methods are used to help achieve these goals without years of therapy.
