Dr. Scharf was simply awful. He diagnosed me with a serious mental illness - Major Depressive Disorder - after speaking to be for all of five minutes, and I was put on a medication that made me extremely ill. I was committed to Youthdale and treated awfully under his care - everything from rude unhelpful staff, to forced exams and treatment, to threats of sedation if I wanted to leave (wanted to, not attempted to "escape"). My parents were told that because of his diagnosis I would need to be kept in until he said I was "better" or they would be refusing necessary medical treatment and could have legal action taken against them. Everything about him and his operation is shady, cruel, and unhelpful. And just FYI - I have been diagnosed with and successfully treated for (through counselling and appropriate meds) ADHD, not depression.

Dr. Scharf is an excellent, caring, and intelligent Doctor who always makes time for all his clients, and has their best interests in mind.

Don't even *think* of allowing Dr. Scharf (or anyone at Youthdale for that matter) to treat your kids. I will never forgive Dr. Scharf or anyone else at Youthdale for the way they treated my son. As the previous poster mentioned, Dr. Scharf seemed to be bothered when asked questions that he obviously didn't want to hear...

I was a patient of Dr. Nathan Scharf's for several years as a teenager in the 90's. He was a wonderful professional, who guided me as best as he could, with insight and concern. I would not have made it without him. I can't believe he is being bashed online the way he is.

Tends to jump to conclusions without enough evaluation. Condescending attitude and misdiagnosis

Dr. Scharf is dangerous! He brushes you off when you ask questions and prescribes medications to children that arent even safe in anyone under 18 years of age! Youthdale is also a terrible organization in itself; they have committed several violations of the Child and Family Services Act. I came across a site called Youthdale.com which shows these issues, and I encourage you to visit the site.

He really helped us understand what was going on with our daughter & helped us make informed decistions. He does get a little verbose at times, but knows his stuff.
