I had no problems with Dr. Scharf. He helped my family in a compassionate way when we were in an extremely difficult place. Thank you.

He told the CAS that I was mentally ill and due to my supposed illness it would be best I be removed from my family. I lost everything and suffered years of abuse because of him.

The whole agency is really pro-apprehension (ie: CAS), and it occurs to me that they put kids at risk whose parents are afraid to seek help for them, knowing they report even non-crisis program inquiries. It is pretty obvious in how they fish for information that this is the intent, so please, if you MUST contact them, use a burn phone number and a false name, unless you'd prefer they create a family crisis where there was none before. I was sickened by how keen they were to institutionalize my child, who was more or less exhibiting symptoms of understandable stress, like migraines and insomnia. They take control away from families, and isolate the child from all supports but themselves, creating dependency. There is no therapy, only chemical babysitting, and complaints, re: side effects are considered non-compliance with the "treatment plan." These kids have no rights, feel helpless, and become angry, for very good reason. Youthdale creates the problem it pretends to alleviate. In my opinion they over - diagnose to keep their numbers and funding high. It's a business. Try Youthlink, Oolagen, Hincks-Dellcrest anything else. This agency requires a morality audit before it screws up even more families. CBC made a good start, but I suspect the board lawyered - up, because it went dead in the water, and review forums on which families' experiences are discussed are quite obviously being shilled by Youthdale staff members.

I was also a patient at Youthdale in 2006. I survived and am in a way better place then I would have been had I not gone. Some kids need a wake up call and this was mine. Be thankful there are medications out there to help some, not all, peoples' emotions to keep them through the day!

WOuld have been better protected from abuse as a street rat. They heavily medicate all kids i mean all....every single child living with me was on multiple meds (8 kids),no access to family common practice and humiliation from staff daily occurrence. If you love your child do not send them here i would have rather stayed at home and been hungry then have had to endure 3 years of that living hades i did. I am hoping they get shut down eventually and are exposed as being under control of doctors who are under pharmaceutical companies payrolls. I know of several staff-ward fortifications and the staff are know to confiscate belongings and never return them. I am forever scared and i hope this man dies the most awful death possible, he is a money hungry piranha who only cares for his own opinions. Research him before you expose your children to him.......

If you are a patient at Youthdale, then you are in a lot of need for care. I have no complaints. I got the help I needed.

No-one dealing with vunerable children and adolescents should be so arrogant and lacking in humility. The man runs his own show with complete disregard for the views of his patients, their families, his co-workers and agency staff. Who needs a team when you know everything! How can you expect disturbed youth to trust their feelings to a man who absolutely will not stop talking. There are many wonderful, caring, compassionate workers at Youthdale. These workers include the other psychiatrists working on the Youthdale units, just pray your child is allocated to one of them.
