Not very caring but appears to be more knowledgeable than Jerry Tenanbaum. Dr De champlain does not go out of his way to help you but seems to have a professional approach on treatment.

Rude, arrogant, dismissive, unhelpful, uncaring. I waited 8 months and drove 3 hours to see him, to be given answers such as I don't know what you are talking about, I don't have your blood tests here. I cried all the way home. I was put on methotrexate and Plaquinel by my family Dr. when I got back home (1 1/2 years to bring down CRP levels), and he apologized profusely for Dr. deChamplain's attitude and behaviour. One would think a Dr. Would run more blood tests. He's an utter waste of time, and useless as a Rheumy.

While he clearly knows Arthritis and it's problems. You have to squeeze that information out of him. I have had better conversations with goldfish!! He is my current rheumatologist but only because there are really no other options. He did quickly get me on the latest medicine but did not tell me what to do with my older medicine. I asked him if I should stop it? he said "no". I asked him when I should stop it? he said "you dont. Take both they work independent of each other and wont effect each other" From a professional I expect that information up front all at once with out me having to ask about it. He does his job with as little words as possible. If that is what you like in your doctor then he's perfect! I want information that I dont feel I need to pry from my professional medical practitioner. I guess I'll settle with the goldfish conversations for now!

Excellent Doctor: professional, caring, informed, thorough. He always gives me all the time I need during appointments and answers all questions and listens to all of my issues. He is very concerned about possible side effects of RA drugs we have tried and we now have the RA under control. I completely trust this man with my overall health and would highly recommend him to anyone who is dealing with rheumatoid or other forms of arthritis. I always look forward to seeing him and he never keeps me waiting in reception. His MOA is very friendly, helpful, and caring and always has a smile and kind words for me. I feel incredibly fortunate to have Dr. de Champlain as my Rheumatologist as I understand that there are only 2 full-time RA doctors in the Victoria area. I had a most unfortunate experience with Tenenbaum but since being referred to de Champlain, the RA is now under control, I have my life back and feel like I did before the onset of this disease. Thank you Dr. de Champlain!!!!!

Useless, arrogant, abusive, bilittled my wife to the point of tears. Utterly rude old dinosaur.

Sadly I had to cancel 2 appointments with this man. The receptionist refused to book me another appointment and questioned whether in fact I needed to see the doctor AND TOLD ME I PROBABLY DID NOT !! as I had cancelled. I was not aware that receptionists were trained medical staff. She was very rude to me. I called back in another attempt to make another appointment, again I was rebuffed. She never even asked why I had to cancel, my wife has breast cancer, that’s why !!!. I told her I was unhappy at the way I was treated and wanted to complain. I was then told that I could not complain and that she was going to complain about me if I complained about her !!!. Incredible !!!. I was then told I had no right to medical services here in Canada and no right to complain. After this and reading all the reviews above, I am glad I don’t have to see this man. If his staff are representative of him I would rather suffer.

I found Dr.de Champlain to be a complete professional who completed a thorough examination and listened as I explained the pain I had been experiencing in recent months. He was responsive to my wish that I not be treated by consuming drugs if another treatment was available. He ordered further tests and x-rays and then completed some procedures in his office that gave me immediate relief from the pain I had been bothered with. Dr. de Champlain is not the most talkative person, but he is a highly skilled professional. If you’re looking for someone to be friends with I might suggest you contact an escort agency that will accommodate any of your need-a-friend problems you’re experiencing.

Unfortunately Victoria has limited options for specialists (of any kind). I work in health care and had perspective on my problem, but he would not look at me, would not answer any questions, and seems to have some kind of personality disorder. Go to the mainland.

Any questions or opinions about your own health always appears to be taken as a threat to his authority, and questions are invariablly left unanswered. In my opinion this Doctor should only be used by people who are prepared to be their own advocates and can also find other ways to ensure their treatments are in their best interests. Any physician who is not prepared to have honest conversation with his patients should perhaps learn some new techniques.
